Ch F16 Combatstick nightmare
« on: November 20, 2003, 11:44:48 AM »
Every time I've built a new system I have trouble getting Windows ( currently ME, but same with 95, 98 and 98 SE), to recognize my stick. This system was no different however I finally got it to work and has been ok for 2 years.

Now suddenly this prob is back with a twist. In order to get windows to recognize my stick I have to add two of the same one in the gaming options utility. If I only add one...it says unconnected. When I add the second one , one will still say unconnected and the other ok. I could deal with this work around accept for the fact that the windows calibration does not work properly. I can get it calibrated some but can't get my throttle to go all the way to zero.  it also wont won't automatically jump to the next step in the calibration routine after clicking a button on the stick. Also, when I shut down my pute it will drop the stick that says ok and I have to start all over again.

I am using the CHJOY98 beta drivers...they are the only ones I've ever been able to get to work properly. Am also running speedkeys.

Does anyone have some idea what I'm up against? Thx in advance, aztec

No techie here, but I would delete all the CH items you have. CH also has a delete program you might want to download also. Restart and install them again. Then install the CH control manager.

It is a bit to set up since the keys in AH are not 1 to 1 with the devices you set up, but once your done your done.

Hope that helps.

Aztec,
I have the old CH analog setup on my Win98, works great. I've had it on at least three computers plus numerous reinstalls, always has worked fine. I use the standard CHJOY drivers, not the betas.
A few questions:
I assume when you refer to the throttle you mean the throttle on the Combatstick, not the CH Throttle or CH Pro Throttle? I have the old CH Throttle, so I don't know anything about the throttle built into the stick.

Do you have the stick plugged into your audio card gameport or the CH Gamecard?  I used to use the CH Gamecard dedicated gameport, but have found the gameport on my SoundBlaster Live Value to work fine and a lot less hassel. I'll be glad to mail you my old CH Gamecard, I don't use it and doubt I ever will. If I get a new computer I'll be switching OS's to XP, which will require an upgrade to the new USB stuff anyway. You can send me your snail mail address to hudcomp@comcast.net if you'd like to try using it. There's more info on the  gamecard at the CH products website.

You might want to consider a fresh install of Win 98SE with all the latest drivers. Use the CHJOY98 drivers from their website.  If it's been two years you may have too much accumulated goo!
