"That was true about 5 years ago when GPL came out. There are several games out now with better physics, netcode, graphics, sounds, etc. F1 Challenge 99-02 is one of them. GPL is a great game, but showing its age."

netcode - GPL is better
graphic - GPL is better with the "addons" GPLEA cars and many more great tracks
physics - No Idea
sounds -  F1 Challenge is better is you like the whine of the modern F1 engine

I own both and enjoy both, but I still think overall GPL is better.

I am waiting for the Project Wildfire Patch for N2003.

They look good in stills, but once they start moving, the rendering engine lets them down.  All the highlights and shadows are static, not dynamic like in F1C and other modern games.  People have done great work on the new textures for GPL, but the old engine still lets them down.

Sound, it's the same thing.  People have made nice WAV files, but it's still a 2 channel system.  F1C supports 5.1 surround, EAX, etc.

Netcode, no comparison.  You get anywhere near a car in GPL and it warps into you and you get bizzare warp collisions with cars jumping about and flying through the air.  Same situation in F1C and it's smooth as silk.  Just the other night I pushed MiniD across the finish line when he ran out of gas.

Anyways, either come race with us or go hijack another thread.  :)

I said sound was better in F1..hehe

I have the same problem with warps in F1C, not with GPL odd.

I am done no more hijacking your thread, I raced with GROWL the first couple of seasons no time to play online really anymore AH or anything else for that matter :(

Funked, i have raced side-by-side with other drivers for years in GPL.  If you're having warp problems it's gotta be a laggy server, your connect, or the other guy's connect.  Papyrus has the best MP netcode around for racing sims....

Cabby I bought it the first day it came out.  Always been warpy and glitchy on every machine and ISP I have tried it on.  It must hate me.  :)

Downloaded M3 Challenge... eh, its ok.

I still disagree with the spin charectaristics.  When you modulate throttle to control the rear its not 'hit or miss' in real life as it is in the game.  Other than that I was halfway impressed.  I dunno if its a control or setup problem but the brakes positively suck on the M3's.  Granted they are heavy cars by touring car standards, but geeezus.

Downloading F1RST, ETCC and patch right now.  Should be up by tonight.

F1RST name will be same as here I suppose.

Anyone hosting tonight?

Saur I'll be hosting in about 45 minutes.
MiniD complained about the power oversteer too.
I messed around with setups, and increasing the diff lock percentage (I maxed it out) gave me better balance exiting, with just a little more push entering.
Also the thing is really sensitive to anti roll bar settings, so play with that.  After my diff change I stiffened the rear ~5% and softened the front ~5% and the car would turn in nicely.
Part of the brakes problem is that the game simulates brake heating, and they suck when they are cold.  Also the default setup gives you only 90% brake pressure, so move that up to 100%.

I like ETCC too, and am happy to play that.  We were just playing M3C because that's what MiniD (the n00b) had installed.

Rgr - Ill screw around with some of it tonight.  Ive got all 'aids' off with the exception of ABS - as far as I can tell, there is no way to tell if you are sliding or slowing down so Ill let the computer figure it out.

Very different feel compared to GTR2002.  I miss the downforce too.

Try reducing the engine sound while keeping sound effects at 100%.  You can hear the tires a little more.  I wish more games would have an exaggerated tire sound to replace the feel and vibration you get in a real car.

Turned a few laps with ETCC - I like it.  The feel is definately better than the M3C mod - the Audi's are nice - the 320i still suffers from the same throttle oversteer problems.  Bah.

In any event - think I figured F1RST out - what will you be naming your server FUNKED?

(Ill sign onto AIM - youve got my name, right?  Same as here)
