I dunno, the Lanc's 4000 lb bomb, or the Stuka's 1800 kg bomb are both pretty devastating.  Dropping one in one of the big cities takes out like three blocks.

Tall boy
« Reply #17 on: December 08, 2003, 09:58:03 AM »
Neat thing about the Tall boy and its big brother the Grand Slam was that as earthquake bombs they were only truely effective when dropped over 18,000 ft above target.

This was required to gain the velocity to enable the thing to penetrate deep into the ground before exploding.

The tall boy (12000llbs)was dropped from lower altitudes (eg against the Tirpitz) here it was used for accuracy and shell casing damage reasons over coupled cookies.

Lancs and Halifaxes often carried coupled cookies. These were 8,000llb and 12,000llb HE bombs made up of multiple 4,000lb cookies. We have the 4,000lb cookie in AH now just not available in the 8000llb and 12000llb load out options.

The Tall Boy actually fittied in side the bomb bay of a modified lanc and so graphically could be easily reproduced in AH.

The Grand Slam was slung underneath a heavily modified and stripped down lanc.

If we ever get perked bomb load outs then the Tall boy with its +18,000 ft to be truely effective limitation would be approriate IMO. Especially if we ever get submarines and submarine pens.

Cookies have a Charge to weight ratio of around 75%, whereas tallboy and grand slam was something more like 25% - 30%.

This is because cookies were made to flatten houses/buildings over a wide area, whereas the grand slam and tallboy literally used an earthquake to destroy targets.

Have both 12k cookie and grand slam where i work, pretty damn impressive.
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

10,000 bomber perk points and your handle is retired after the drop (which would cause a reset as the country you drop on would be considered totally destroyed)

But you can shout yeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaa ahhhhhh on channel 1 before dissapearing into the oblivion you would have so richly earned.

Just thought...........
