Hey Hi Tech,

I was wondering if there could ever be the ability to enter a film and fly in it.  It would be a great learning tool and a cool offline practice mode.  You get the AI for free from the recording.

Thanks,

If you flew in a recording every other plane would go along as recorded and not react to your moves as 'real' pilots do, so I would not call that Artificial Intelligence. Besides, it's not that simle to apply something like this; if you altered part of the scenery 'weird' things might happen as recorded events followed the original unaltered state of the surroundings and your manipulation might prevent stuff from happening or cause them to happen without apparent reason. Best way for you to learn the arts of aerial combat is to fly with real people. That way you get to go against pilots of various skill-levels and immediate response or advice should you need it. Before you practise you should know what to practise and know the terms people are using when talking about the maneuvers.
You might start here -> http://www.netaces.org/ahmain/siteframe.html#title

Best of luck and have fun up there!

Hey Tsingis,

Are you  part of HTC?

Yeah the planes would fly like they were recorded. so what, it is more than what the drones do.  It would be much like before online gaming i.e. Ace of The Pacific circa mid to late 80s, MCFS same thing, pre programmed ai come out of the same spot etc.

What are you talking about altered scenery???  Instead of watching you could enter the flight and game engine takes over using the data from the film to model the other planes.  All the flight data is recorded in the film.

Thanks for the tips on the arts of aerial combat, I'll check that out.  I agree the real deal is great but it would be nice to go in and fly the same scenario and try all different things.  You can only Hi yo yo and Lo yo yo drones flying in a circle so long.  I would mostly want it to run the scenarios where I got shot down, correct the one or two moves I did wrong and see what happens.  Prove my mistakes so to speak.

Thanks,

Have fun I'll look for you in the Virtual Yonder.

No.

I mean that for example if you were to take out all fighter hangars of a field or sink a ship and in the recording there would be planes taking off from there and later on destroy planes or objects. So your modifications would be restricting part of the film events and some events should be filtered out from the remaining data.

But the point is, the other pilot reacted to what you did originally, so it would not necessarily prove anything.
If you could make the drones repeat certain basic manauvers like a barrel roll instead of just level circling, that would be nice, but I doubt such thing will be introduced to AH since AH2 with it's big AI element is already well under development.

Until then, I recommend the H2H arenas, cya there!

Old thread I know, and no answer makes me believe its not possible. What is interesting and only one person seemed to see the value of such a tool.

Drones fly one hard coded path off line, one plane type, one speed. Being able to fly in film as was possible in the later versions of "the other game" was a great way to practice deflection shooting and how to practice winning a won fight that was lost online because of faulty technique.

Such a tool would not be difficult to add. As is, the drones get their plane type, speed, alt, attitude etc., from some hard coded data in the program. With fly in film, the data would come from the film. As far as objects being destroyed corrupting other events, as for as I can tell, the only logic checking is done for the players vehicle. If a plane took off from a carrier you leveled while flying in film, it would look like the plane was taking off from a few feet above the water. Ther host wouldn't care, because all its doing is rendering the planes position and tendancy. If you shot down a plane in film, it would be a simple switch to not render that plane anymore ( or as "the other game" did - render them flashing.).

Anyway, IMO, its a valuable tool that lets you set up situations you seldom find online, and set them up quickly.
