Taking a base
« on: December 18, 2003, 09:05:02 AM »
Hey Fella's, i could use a little help here. Since I have been flying Aces I have seen several good and bad ways to take a base.  High level pork missions killing everything,  NOE missions that do nothing but take the town and vh, hoping to voulchthe upping defence fighters.  What do you or your squad think is the better way to take a base without creating a furball that takes you 20 minutes to fly back to.  I "grew up" killing all the FH's using 51's from 15-20k and dive bombing, but who like to climb that high everytime?  As for the NOE raids, if you screw up you have no alt to fight your way if the enemy starts upping Spits, LaLa's and Niki's.   Some outside (meaning outside my squad and country) advice would be great.  Thanks in advance for the help..

Well Skip I personally think that if you can get a little of both to happen within your squadron you might be on the right track. You get a higher CAP/strike group coming and also have a low alt capture/town kill group to hit simultaneously you have a greater advantage. Each aspect you talk about has plus' and minus' but to have both integrated into you group is what we try to do when we head out on base taking. If we can ever get the entire squadron on again with F4U-1D's, F4U-1C's and F4U-1's mixed together taking on La-7's and NikiHO's. Especially if we can end up landing the majority of the squadron on the recently captured base and defending it against those dweebs we just shot down.

Undefended base : noe... deack/kill VH.. vulch (and/or kill FH).. kill town.. goon

Defended base :  Fighter sweep to suppress... jabo/bombers to kill FH/VH.... kill remaining defenders.. kill town.. escorted high goon.  Take out radar before attack if you want perfection.

2 ways to doom a base attack: dont deack.. don't kill VH.

If you have a cap no need to kill all the FH and fuel.
If you do you have taken nothing.

Kill the VH.  The Vh is the single most important target at any base.  Nothing ruins a base capture faster than a few flakpanzers.  It's better to have fighters swarming the runways than to have the VH up.  Fighters can be vulched, flakpanzers cant.
