LOL.  I just use my ISP's newsserver, it's plenty fast and it's free.

The real reason I think NNTP beats p2p is that p2p is mostly only useful for downloading things you already know the name of.  If I know the name of something, I can easily listen to a sample at iTMS or amazon and buy if I like.  The beauty of usenet is that you can slurp a ton of stuff from the genres you want, and discover new music.  I would say 90% of my CD collection comes from mp3s.

Could someone explain to me how to get access to all of these newsgroups or where to start to learn about NNTP and what progs to get?  I'm the FNG to this stuff.

then find the name of your isps newserver (most likely news.myispsname.com)

When you do it for the first time it'll download all the newsgroups names. Then you select which groups you want (like alt.binaries.sex.bestiality which the most popular group with AH pile-its)
