Grade Darwin Setup 12/26/03 - 01/02/04

Since Storch is in a rush and so as to not hose things up too much...

Please grade the Darwin setup. Remember we are grading on a C curve. A's should be near impossible to get. Likewise F's are equally near impossible.

I'll reserve my grade for later in the week.

We really shouldn't grade these until the end of the week.
This has only been up for one day.

D- I think the set up would be better if they moved the spit in closer to the action and perked it.

I give it a C+

It wasn't the setup that ruined the fun. It was the maliceful intent of people on both sides, that killed the fun.

1. Unorganized Spits and P-40s, after getting consecutively shot down, turned to really dull tactics of not fighting at all unless they find a Zero alone at deck.

2. Seeing that they could hardly find a fight, the JP side just parked the fleet 5 miles away from the only base that could bring a quick fight against each other, obviously looking for a quick fight.

3. Seeing that the JP side parked fleet right off shore, the P-40s and Spits refused to up from the base. They gathered in a large group, and flew around the CV, waiting for Zeros to up. Of course, surrouned all sides, the Zeros couldn't grab alt, nor group up.

4. The Zeros, getting tired of meeting alt-monkeying P-40s and Spits, waiting right outside ack rangem, decided to hug the fleet ack.

5. In turn, seeing ack hugging Zeros, the P-40s and Spits ran off to somewhere else.

6. And finally, when the fight was drawn off to a wide sky where neither fleet ack nor base ack was nearby, both sides clashed with their full might - both using cooperative team tactics to meet and fight, not to bore 'n zoom or just run away. In these moments, the fights were really good.

6 was good, but steps 1~5 that lead to 6, was really boring.

Haven't tried it. FesterMA is up.  ;)

B+. Spits and P40s against Zekes make for fun fights. Too bad the arena is empty now...

I was one of the people (heck, maybe the ONLY one of the people) who was interested in seeing how a Spit I would do v. a zeke.  The answer, to all who have flown this week, is pretty clear; one-on-one, the zeke eats the Spit's lunch unless the spit flies strictly b&z tactics, and even then the Spit is hobbled by its gun package.  The P40B, we already know, has this same problem, although its guns are better.

The result has been that the allied planes must fly strictly b&z tactics (or die), or fly in huge swarms.  Having one side that can only fly b&z, while the other side can only fly turnfight tactics, produces a really boring match - at least to my mind.  I can't remember another setup where this was so.

All in all, I'm really grateful that we got to try this, but I wouldn't do it again.
