But that's pretty close to the historical record. B&Z was Chennault's tactic with P-40's against IJ turnfighters.

OK it is late enough in the week for my grade.

F

1) Lack of fighters limited IJ forces to known attack patterns.
2) Lack of formation bombers sent many pilots straight to the CT.
3) Lack of formation bombers limited ability to destroy strategic targets (bases, fleets, etc).

For the first time this month I actually went and flew in the MA and enjoyed making new friends :D on the Knight front of the Rooks.

WTF was this, then, if not another "no fair cause I don't like Pac" whine, ya whiney lil whiner? :D

While I appreciate the effort, calling this a Darwin setup is a real stretch and the sad thing is that it really didn't have to be this way.
To me it would have made more sense to make only one sub, the A6M5 for the A6M3, and then use the proper allied planes, the Spitfire V and P40E. Seems like this would make a much better and more accurate Darwin setup, imho. I didn't get to fly this one much so I can't really comment any further.

Just my two cents.

Hell I opened this thread and reminded everyone about the grading curve and I still upon even more deep reflection give it an F.

A

Because grading setups like this is completely pointless, especially after all the whining has already taken place before and during ...

and,

Because I pretty much like any setup that has the a6m2 in it, and am willing to put up with a certain amount of frustration to fly it.

I for one, and maybe the only one, liked the A6M2 vs P-40B. Since the A6M2 performs like the A6M5 in dives, the P-40B earned every single kill...if the pilot flew home and landed.

I flew the A6M2 for a few hopes and the axis guys certanly did have a hard time trying to (INVADE DARWIN) but I think it was a bad map to represent this theme.

Again, the A6M2 is ubber in the dive speed area, diving at 420mph was only what the A6M5 could do and come out in one piece.

The P-40B wabbles and bounces like a motherF!@#er and its very hard to shoot in close at low speeds and get away with it.

The SBD is as stable as a rock, the roll rate is slow but the massave rudder input will get it to turn pretty good.

I dont fly Spits!

1. I liked the plane set.....B+ (Woulda been an A+ but took away score for ubber A6M2 dive speed and durability at that speed)

2. I disliked the Darwin Theme with this map.....D+

3. Loved seeing Kates and Vals. I shot very few but it was nice NOT to see the F!@#$% Ki-67 or Ju-88s for a F!@#$% change.
For that I give an.....A++

However, Axis had the chance to try and invade much smaller fileds but chose to try and capture the two biggest fields on the map. The allies were able to pull it off but thats not what the theme was about.

I feel that the axis players (Jg-3 exclusivly) can pull off a nice invasion the next time this map is run if the CMs will moniter the arena during peak times and not allow the allies to capture bases; increase downtimes on these larger fields, if its a large field thats being attacked for a given night....increase downtimes for the night. If its a small field, ease up the down times.

At the same time, the allied squads need to form massave dive bomber missions to sink the fleet.

But then there are the ones that dont care about anything but to furball with equally matched aircraft, even if it takes two types to do it.

Final Score B+

I guess "Theme Maps" need to wait till AHII. The CT should be renamed the "Furball Arena" with a twist of "Base Capture at Will" Wait, I keep forgetting that already exists and is called the MA :rofl

C

The zero was a blast to fly.

I flew a lot of Allied sorties in the SBD and was amazed as to how well it faired against the zero.  Many zero pilots seemed to not give it enough respect and used poor tactics against it.  It turns pretty well, has very lethal long-range guns compared to the zero, is pretty tough, and has a stinger tail gun that can quickly ruin a zekes day.

This set-up was a fun experiment.
It was most enjoyable when the Japanese had their one carrier close to Allied bases and provoked some good furballs.
It sometimes got a little dull and turned into an alt monkey contest without the CV.

You're sampling Warbirds since it went cut-rate .. aintcha? I've been considering trying it just to check the model and planeset as well as DOAIII and the WWII tank game.

It's the KI-84 (which I think is the Frank) from IL-2... they have the A6M-5, KI-84, and I think they are coming out with the KI-61..
