fog table, antialiasing, anisotropic ?'s
« on: December 30, 2003, 08:17:48 AM »
never have asked those who really know.  but when it comes to fog table emulation, antialiasing, and anisotropic filtering what settings do you prefer.

years and years ago, a squaddie said no no no to all 3 and that's how i fly.  never bothered to really check if that's the way to go.

Hap,
The best thing to do is try them out.  I am not sure if the fog em.... has much affect in AH but prolly uses up some resources.  I can't remember what I set on my Guam box with the GF4 4400 but I will let ya know when I get there tommorow.  I do have AA set at 2x on that box at 1280 x 1024 res and it looks pretty good.  I have my Hawaii box with the turbocharged ATI set at 4x. Unlike the GF4 the ATI doesn't take much of a FPS hit with either setting but  AF blurrs the text on both so I don't use it on either.  Best thing to do is try different settings and see which you like best.

ty.  i piddled with it yesterday.  i noticed i lost some frames when i slid the aa and af over to the max but the visual change must have been slight because i noticed some difference but it it wasn't pronounced.

as it is today i have fte, aa, and af off.  been flying at the good res too 1600 x whatever it is.

I use FSAA maxxed and Antistropic maxxed.  FSAA reduces jagged edges (look at the cockpit frame edges).  I too run at 1600x1280 and I notice the FSAA does look better.  All edges in AH look smooth as silk.  The antistropic reduces shimmer that you see in the distance and makes distant textures sharper.  This could, in theory, allow you to see an airfield from further away, but I haven't checked that.

I haven't used fog emulation.
