Frusterating moments...
« on: January 02, 2004, 12:23:43 PM »
I had a frusterating moment today...friday, in festerma.

a couple guys had just captured a242, and island base right in rook territory. It was on an island,  but it was right off the mainland which was populated by rook bases.  Not a single red dot or rook was seen in the area. There was no resistance upon capturing the base, either. no one seemed to care.

But right across from the base on teh mainland were 2 ports, and an airfield.  a couple of the same pilots who captured the field (including me) upped bombers to bomb p232. In a b17s and lancs, we leveld 90% of the town, destroyed the vh, and deacked the field. unfortuantely, our ammo had ran out, so we all went back. On my way back, I saw b26's and a couple fighters.  Now, b17s are slow, so it took be quite some time to head back to base. But when I finally landed, I upped a heavy 38 and to finish up that town for a goon was circling the airfield awaiting the town to be destroyed.  In no time I returned to the port to find all the ack up, the vh up (but fortunately NO gvs..seems like no one was alerted) and some more building in the town up. No problem, i thought, so i destroyed the town and vh. the ack was firing at me so I took town 1 ack, but unfortuanetly ran out of ammo. Without any defenses, I got shot down by one other gun emplacement.  There were still 2 gun emplacements left.  Back in the tower, I saw a b26 formation and 190 take off from a 242.  I was going to up a another p38 to finish off the ack, but when I saw the other planes I decided to leave it to them. I upped a goon and radioed to take out the ack at p232. I reached p232 in a c47 to see the ack still up. I called out in country channel GET THE ACK AT P232 DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!  no one responded. Keep in mind there were 2 ports next to each other. we had a chance to get 2 ports, and we had a chance to get several airfields from 242.  we could get 2 cvs and from those cvs possibly get the entire west coast of festerma.  i kept radioing GUYS AT 242 OR ANYONE GET THE ACK DOWN AT 232!!!!!!! as i circled p232, a safe distance from the ack.  i waited about 10 minutes, no one even responded, no one came, no one replied. I dropped troops anyway. all of them got killed by ack.  I got really frusterated and logged.
Yes, I could have then just upped a fighter and finished the ack then gotten another goon and taken the field, but the point is, it seems like countrymen sometimes never listen and are too caught up in taking out some base in the middle of the map to realize they ahve a chance to gain 2 cvs and take the entire west coast of the map.

Anyone else have days like this?

Nope. I never have days like that. There's a reason but I'll just say "nope".

only people you can rely on are squaddies...

Toad, have you even been in a Goon? or even thought about capturing a base for that matter? :D

Furball, yeah.. I have. If the squad requires it I'll do it when asked.

Proof you say? Well, it'll be in the stats but probably a long way back. Thank Cod I'm in a squad that doesn't require it very often.

But in this tour, you can see TWO amazing incidents in my records. I actually dropped bombs on a VH and killed it because Sax, the Evil Canadian Dictatorial Overlord, made me fly an IL-2 and bomb a VH. The amazing thing was I DID hit it, kill it and survive. Says something about the mad skillz required....

That same night, the ECDO made me up in a codforsaken TANK to defend said captured V-field. I actually killed two other attacking tanks before one got me.

It was a pretty awful night up until then but after that the ECDO allowed us to get back into our natural states. ;)

I still felt dirty and took a shower as soon as I logged that night though.

He even made me take up a goon.  First time for me.  Ironically some greedy vulcher came along and augered trying to take me out on the runway and I got a kill about 3 seconds after getting in the thing.

Then I got vulched and everyone laughed at me because I didn't know how to drop troops anyway.

I do like the festerma.  The only drawback about the experience of the map is it has the most skitzophrenic front lines of all the maps.  In a matter of minutes a sector changes from a good furball to either no friendlies, or no enemies.  The scope of the 3 front lines often strech manpower, and one mission can suck the life out of good fighting everywhere else on the map.

I headed to rookA2 the other night, full red bar and a bunch of friendlies headed there (looked like a good fight shaping up).  When I got there it was hard to find a fight.  After milling around trying to get to an enemy A2 was captured.  Within a minute of capture, I was the only green dot in the sector.  After several minutes of being bounced, evading, and hiding in ack, there were still no knights.  I buzzed the town to look for a gv steal.  Sure enough found an ostie garding a M3.  I proceeded to straif them, straif troops on the ground (still cursing the drop in hit percentage), and had to rtb engine damage.  Finally at least one other friendly upped to defend the newly taken field.  Had to afk a min to pull dinner out of the oven, and when I came back A2 was red again.

Ive seen similar instances of the "cattle herd" jumping all over the map all week.  So yes ap2, I know what you're saying.

There is a small % of folks who ya CAN depend on to kill that last ack, etc.---The rest (66%?) are a total crapshoot, and could really give a crap if ya die or not, unless mebbe they can get an easy kill out of it. They pays their 15 bucks.....eh

BTW, who is Cod? I don't believe in Cod. All sounds a bit fishy to me.

Tough fight those buildings put up, you couldn't beat them in what, three trips?  Try finding a fight against RL people, they are much easier.
