btw thats the Rodney or the Nelson out beyond the breakwater, nothing else ever built was that mean looking and ugly :)

More likely a French Dunkerque class or the Richelieu class BBs. Both Dunkerque class ships (Dunkerque,  Strasbourg) were scuttled at Toulon. With the stack shown in the middle, would say a Dunkerque.

That's certainly the HMS Nelson in the background. She had her rear superstructure and mast painted black. In addition, she carried her main superstructure further aft than the French BBs, which was not as massive as the Nelsons.

That superstructure on a second look does seem more blockish.;)

Could be the Rodney as it also had a black mast. ref A. Raven
