The first 'explosion' is actually the pressure wave transmitted through the water from the 1 explosion.  What looks like the second part is actually the rest of the first (and only explosion) to reach the surface.

Yea, MK48 torpedos are something else, even when you have to sleep next to one.

I read that they can be steered manually while hooked up via cable.  I got to see and touch one when I visited the USS Honolulu (688), that was pretty dang cool.
