Here are a few points about the F4U-1D and 4.

1. The 4 20mill cannon load was an option interchangable between aircraft. Not production only.

2. While the 20 Mill gun installation was 35lbs heavier than the 50 cal machine gun intall the ammo was significantly lighter as was the aircraft.

3. The F4U-1D could takeoff with more than a 17,000LBS gross weight. We are limited to slightly over 15,000lbs.

4. The F4U-1D and F4U-4 had an interceptor loadout that included 178 gallons of fuel and half ammo load of 1200rounds.

Not yet Rafe. I just scanned them today in response to an old ammo load post of mine in the AH2 forum.

There is more such as the F4U-1D was approved to use 2800RPM at sea level for takeoff which decreased ground run by 4 to 9 percent. Imagine what that would do for climb?

I have detailed drag breakdowns of every single part of the F4U just about.

I actually aquired these directly from the Vought Heritage museam about a year ago. A guy named Dick Atkins sent me altogether about 100 pages of original Vought data from Micro-fishe(sp).

I scanned much of it already but I still have about 35 pages I haven't.

Everything in electronic copy I scanned myself.

This guy Dick Atkins is a great guy. He did all of the researching, printing and shipping everything no charge.

Hey F4UDOA do you have any pictures of an F4U5 cockpit, preferably of a dayfighter version?

I have pictures of the F4U-4 cockpit. I don't own the F4U-5 pilots operating handbook but much of it is online. There are many diagrams of the cockpit in the POH's.
