Blackouts ?
« on: January 16, 2004, 02:05:19 PM »
Hi :)

I'm having issues with "blacking out" ...
I'm using a MS Sidewinder Pro and it seems any little bit of pitch input , into the stick gives a severe "blackout" .
Any ideas , whether a different stick will make the difference ?
My friend has a Saitek stick and after trying it , I could really tell the difference ...
Hardly an "blackouts" unless you were pulling REAL hard ...
Thank in advance :)

I believe many guys use the Sidewinder and do not have this problem. I would say the almost instant blackouts are caused by the stick scalling if it has been adjusted. Try gettting your friends stick configuration file and try his settings on your stick to see if it helps. Of course save your original file just in case you need it.
I think the file you want is 'stick.cfg' by the way.
Also, I'm assuming your pilot is healthy and not blacking out from being wounded.

Calibrate the stick, not in windows, but in AH.

Settings > Joystick > Calibrate

Stick scaling should not do this.  Might be spiking though.

MS sticks are optical, they dont spike and never need calibration in windows, however they are a lot more sensitive than saitek sticks, if your using it with a configuration that was set up for a saitek stick it going to be extreamly oversensitive, just calibrate it in AH and put sliders on default and it will work fine.

and once you do this, you'll want to play with teh deadband and damper sliders, increasing them somewhat to lessen the dreaded "do not move your conrtrols so rapidly" lock up.

i have my rudder deadband and dampers about 1/2 way up to less any incidental twisting i may do on the stick.
