Monitor Problems
« on: January 16, 2004, 07:03:26 AM »
My 5 yr old HP 21' monitor has just blown-up and I am waiting for a replacement, but in the meantime have borrowed a spare 17' Samsung.

Each time I try and run the new screen I get the message 'Sync out of range' and no further activity takes place.

I suspect that this might be caused by the fact that my old screen was running at 100hz and this spare will max at 85hz, but I have no means of changing the refresh rate on the adaptor without being able to see the screen !! (Chicken & egg spring to mind)

I guess the only option is to remove the current GF4 4400ti card and stick some other bog standard AGP card in to reset the video settings (my ASUS P4B board doesn't have a generic video out separate from the AGP slot) and then reinstal the GF4 card at a lower resolution.

Any other ideas will be very welcome.

Hold down F8 during boot to bring up startup menu. when it comes up select safe mode, it will start with very low vidio settings and you can make your adjustments.
