ATI Radeon 9600SE

I just bought it because it was only $129 at CompUSA. I've read a few reviews that suggest anything with "SE" suffix is crap. But what I'd like to know: will it be good enough to run AH2?

Should run AH fine and be slow on AH2.  It is roughly 60% as fast as a 9600 Pro, 50% of a 9600 XT, and 33% of a 9800 XT.
You can see how it stacks up against other Radeon and nVidia cards at Tom's Hardware

I found another card for same price as the R9600SE, but faster specs: the Asylum GeForce 5600 Ultra w/ 8X AGP, 128 MB. Anyone have an opinion on GeForce cards? This one, in particular?

A far better choice than the 9600SE

Nvidia based cards usually have an unacceptable 2D image quality which renders them useless anywhere outside 3D gaming.

It's the main reason why I haven't even suggested anyone to go nvidia way.

Well, I returned the R9600SE, and decided to save my pennies and get the 9600 pro sometime in the near future. Thanks to all of you for your input. I shoulda done mor ehomework and asked you b4 wasting my time on an impulse purchase. I just saw the 9600 label and thought $129 in a retail store was a good deal. Live and learn.;)

I doubt it but you can download AH2 beta and give it a try.  If it runs less than 30 FPS, you will likely want to upgrade.
