Future Request Of HTC
« on: December 27, 2000, 07:43:00 AM »
Since the other thread is full of unnecessary chest beating, flaming and group hugging, I just wanted to restate my main problem with these new version rollouts and to propose a solution.

Despite all the cool stuff HTC puts into each new version, there are typically bugs or issues which crop up which make the first couple of weeks of gameplay miserable for a large percentage of the AH population at least until HiTech can patch the glaring problems.

It would be great if those who want the newest version ASAP had their own server to play on while those of us who want stability can remain on a different server with the older version.  When the new version is tested sufficiently, THEN roll it out to the masses.

The advantages of such a scenario are numerous.  First, this is the closest you are ever going to come to keeping everyone happy.  Those who enjoy constant improvement and change have their own arena while those who enjoy stable gameplay have theirs.  Secondly, HiTech and crew won't be as hardpressed to bust their tulips coding patches when they deploy a new server since as a "Testing Server" players play on it knowing full well that its a work in progress.

As a paying customer, I think my $30 entitles me to a month long of mostly problem free gaming (and for 10 months of the year it does).  Its these periods when major software changes are rolled out to masses that I gnash my teeth and devolve into the mad poster.  I've proposed a viable alternative...how bout it

Wow, is that 40$ for some special account? I only pay 30$...

Oops...yup it $30.  But for all intents and purposes, I'd pay $40 for this game since I feel the level of entertainment I get from it is easily on par with what I spend for cable television.

But....$30, $40, $20, $10.  Point isn't how much I am spending but that I am a customer and as such ought to be covered by some type of service level agreement.

Lemme propose a hypothetical situation here.  Skuzzy's ISP is a service provider to HTC just as HTC is a service provider to me.  HTC pays a monthly fee for that service just like we do.  How would you expect HTC to react if Skuzzy said, "We apologize for your inconvenience but your customers are going to have a hard time getting to your site because we are currently upgrading our routers.  We anticipate the rollover will be completed in 2 weeks.  PLease bear with us."

Does HiTech have a right to be angry?  Do we have a right to be angry?

Nice.  That was a well thought out, reasonable, constructive post.

It's the one you should have made the first time.

The other post was just as beneficial.  It did wonders to get my mind off of problems at hand (or at joystick).

hey dingy,

I think this is a worth while idea.  I too prefer a stable sim to the current hornet's nest (translation: frame rates) that 1.05 is.
