But the WWI crates would come apart pretty easily from manuevers as well as bullets, and at best most things seemed to be a more feeble and slow motion version of WWII. Which is the way it really was, right?

Thats what would make it fun, it was a different kind of combat since the planes were slower and lighter.  The throttle controls are diff (on or off no inbetween) like fighting two kites more rudder work etc.

Mano,

Its been done, and actually done well a couple of times.  Flying Circus was the first big one to do it. They had a good player group till they went pay for play. Took a year but then there was no flying circus.

DOA was next. Its still over there if you don't mind brand W.

As to doing a competitive product over here there is the problem of who you'll get to do the job?

HTC is a VERY small company that just barely manages to keep up with all that AH needs. You'd have to put a new group together from scratch, pay em for 1 to 2 years while they worked on it. Before you could even think about getting any income back in. Much less break even.

Sorry but I'd very much doubt we'll see a AH in WWI.

Hey Ghost,

Why couldn't they use the same flight model with a new plane set the physics don't change just the plane characteristics.

I appreciate all of your constructive comments yes or no. It is very impressive what Hi Tech Creations has accomplished with Aces High in such a short time. I don't think they look at it as a job, but something they really enjoy doing.

A WWI arena could use the same game engine and as far as the terrain, let the players build it. Moving the fields closer together is not difficult. It would only take 4 planes to get it started, and from time to time, add a couple more a/c. In the early days of Warbirds, when they were still in Texas, there were not that many planes. They added additional planes or variations of the same plane over a period of time. Many planes shared the same artwork. I started flying Warbirds during version 1.3 and flew the online version of Red Baron before that. :)

C ya up there, Mano :aok

In theory mars its perhaps possible.

I suspect the real reason is HT has no interest in that area.  But thats just my opinion.

Same reason he won't do a Korea era sim.

Even with player contributions, such as terrain, plane skins, etc. I still think it would stretch HTC to the edge.

Those 7 people have worked VERY hard the last 1.5 years to keep AH1 running & get AH2 close. I suspect it will take another year after its released to get all the planes in, add some new ones, troubleshoot etc.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see HT come in & say his next project after AH2 is going to be a WWI sim.

HTC could so easily have done just a few crates and stick em in a arena, hell.  No problem.

The fact that HT just doesnt have any desire for it, or apparently anything outside of a WW2 timeframe, and the fact that since AW came over, AH seems to have just plain stopped moving forward just soured me over a very long time.  I loved the game.

I know AH2 is in the works but its been such a long time since the AH1 has made made any progress.  I really hope AH2 makes the stagnation of a really great thing worth the wait and disappointment.  See what thinking about a few WW1 crates has done to me ;)

Ok, back to your usual stuff

IMHO, the WW1 arena in Air Warrior got old pretty quick.  Each sortie was just like the last...

  • take off
  • fly slowly to target
  • loop incessantly until someone dies
  • do it again

Now, if HTC could find some way to REALLY improve the gameplay, I'd check out the arena.

Nope. Not wise. More planes, more arenas, more work for same team, means twice less content for both ww2 and ww1. At the moment HTC still work on something they announced 1.5 years ago, and it is not even close to completion.

ww1 also has much smaller user base to be marketingly justified.

WW1 would be awesome, I used to love going into the WW1 arena in AW when they had it, was a nice break and a ton of fun.  I would vote yes, but it would be in vein as this will never happen.

Yes, Mano. I miss the old DoA days. Calling in arty, watching Zeps flaming down to the ground. Online career started in DoA, WWI crates are sure fun to fly.

Hiya Dx, when did you go to the 'dark side'-Pigly Wigly Stompers? :)

Long live the 94th APS 'Hat in Ring'!!!
