Driving into London from the west along the M40/A40, you will pass RAF Northolt on your left side. At night, you can even see the runway approach lights, and the street lighting in line with the runway is provided by lights about half the height of the normal ones. Shortly beyond that, there’s a major highway junction, known locally as “The Polish War Memorial”. I hadn’t given it any thought until recently, but I’ve seen mention made of Northolt in your sigs. Is this because there were Polish squads based at Northolt? How many, and do you have any history on their relationship with Northolt?
These days, RAF Northolt is used, amongst other things, for the safe and discrete transit of guys like Tony Blair and George Bush, so that they can avoid the hurly-burly of Heathrow.
