I was devistated to hear this.Rick was always a guy to be counted  on.I just got the news from Vatti.Im crying as I write this.Seems that to often we take for granted the friendships that we forge in fire in this game and take for granted that they will always be there. They wont.Rick would always be there to help out.He was a team player.he was the guy you counted on.I cant say how much his friendship ment to me from AW on.Hajo....Thanks for filling us in.You know your number 2    Dale I Just hopre you will let the FS guys that are not in AH fly the fly by.

I recieved this from one of Ricks kids.Theres a kind of warning here to all of us in a way.

  Curtis,

Hello. It's good to here from you agian. Aparently my father had some
problems with blood clots developing in his legs over the years. I guess one
finally got bad enogh and burst straight into his heart. Doctors say it's
due to sitting to much, he did sit a lot at this darn computer.:-)  You
couldn't pry him away from it for nothing. They did also find plack in his
arteries. On Thursday Jan 29th around after noon time  my Mother had come
home to  here my dad fall in the bathroom. My mom kept banging on the door
and some how, some way my dad got the strength to unlock and open the door
to her. My father had fallen and hit his head pretty bad, and was herting
and asking for a pillow. My mom ran to get him one, she layed there by his
side for about 15 minutes if that while on the phone with 911. He was
breathing pretty heavy and  just couldn't fight it any longer. My mother had
to watch him take his last breath. I told my mom that even though it hurts
so bad to lose him, I'm glad he went with  her by his side, and that it
wasn't some horible car accednt, and that I'm glad it  was in his home. I'm
just so glad he wasn't by him self.  Every time I flew out here to see my
family I always ran up the stairs to see him. He always gave me the bigest
bear hugs ever. We (Rick's children ) all had such a special bond with our
father. My father was and is a VERY SPECIAL man.  I think I can speak for my
brother, and two sisters with I say that we are truly lost and feel very
empty with him gone. We really respected, appreciated, loved, honered, and
looked up to our father. Curtis I wont keep you any longer. I do want to
make sure  I thank all of you guys again one last time before I hed back to
California with my kids. I wish  I had a computer so that when I needed to
talk about him I could write you guys. I miss those long nights I would stay
up talking with my dad online when I did have a computer. My Uncle however
does have one so  I think I just might take all your names with me. And I
have to get a lot of them too. Well, again thanks Curtis. And maybe I shall
talk with you later. I leave  feb 5 2:22 flight so this will probably be my
last letter. My family will be checking it daily though. Bye Curtis it was a
pleasure.

For the whole earth is the sepulcher of famous men,
not only are they commemorated in columns and
inscriptions in their own country but in foreign
lands there dwells also an unwritten memorial of
them graven not on stone but in the hearts of men.

- Pericles’ Funeral Oration, V c. B.C.
