What would be one of the gamiest features? The ostie I'm sure everyone would say... spawn camping.... How bout ship gunner... most would agree that is pretty unrealistic or... if you do have to fly.... someone like I am talking about would probly use the tiffie... a plane that's engine rarely ran well.. one not seen much in any theatre but certainly not used against early war planes and certainly not 100% reliable.. yeah... I would say most of those are pretty gamey... hardly a tribute to real WWII pilots.

Your comprehension of history is laughable.
A) the Typhoon IB was a fine fighter, it just wasn't the HIGH altitude fighter the RAF and US were looking for and found in the P51's. The design problems of the earlier models were solved. It excelled in medium to low alt roles. It's primary short-fall was a very vulnerable radiator, a definate liability during air to ground missions due to ground fire, which is modelled in AH. Furthermore, I fly other aircraft as well, particularly the F6F-5 and the P47D-30. The Typhoon is my favorite primarily because I have great success killing La7's with it, La7's as we know are in great abundance, especially when fighting Bishops

B) Ground fire accounted for 75% of all lost aircraft, ever heard of Ploesti? The elite anti-aircraft units there decimated the low alt-raid attempts by the Americans. The germans especially had very sophisticated anti-aircraft weapons and used them effectively with highly trained crews.
C) The single most important function of escort ships for carriers was anti-aircraft duty. Other than the aircraft themselves it was the only defense the fleets had vs. attacking aircraft and was generally effective except when it came to suicide 'kamikazes'. Seems realistic to me, pretty much the only way carriers get sunk is from suicide attacks nowadays, a determined suicider can penetrate the AA screen.
Not sure what your definition of gamey is. But, survivalism is not, as I explained earlier, necessarily conducive to high rank/score. In fact, it is generally much easier to rank highly (top 100) in a fighter "Furballing Until You Die". Incidentally, I have never, and will never spawn camp, I think that practice is extremely cheesy. When I speak of game nuances that detract from the realistic/immersive feel, spawn camping tops my list. All of my vehicle kills come from killing would-be vulchers in an Ostwind. I just happen to be very good at it
