When you are shooting you see a lot of sparkles when you really paste the target.  However, the host is only updated like 4 times a second.  That means that a lot of those hits are all sent to the host at the same time.  The guy getting hit clearly does not hear a separate and distinct sound for each sparkle that the firer sees.  One ping sound to a target may be many many hits to a shooter.

Grey, I was already damaged and continued sailing on in a PT after a Chog pass. Like someone said, it might be a connix problem. Also, be advised that Bombs just do a "Ping" sometimes, instead of a "Crack !"

As someone who has killed or attempted to kill quite a few PT's in an F6F, I can tell you it takes a good deal more than one .50 cal hit to take one out.  The best I have done is to kill one in a single pass, but I was slow and I put at least a 2 second burst into the PT from bow to stern.  Most other times it takes me 2 or 3 passes to get one with the 6x.50's.  I also recal seeing smoke from a PT I had damaged who kept going, although he obviosly had problems and an oil leak.

I reccomend you try killing PT's with a .50 cal plane and see the thing from the other side of the coin.

hmm well 1st, when I was attacked by a tbm, 1 ping and I blew up,, several other pings were heard after I was in the tower.

1 ping deaths from 303 rounds. (at least 3 times)

won't even go into how long hits from 20mm lasts after I'm in tower...

I have yet to experience ANY damaged components from ANYTHING....even though I survived a gun run...(and took a good 5 seconds of constant ping sounds...)

and if my connect was that bad I wouldn't be getting the prolonged ping sounds after I'm in the tower.

the few times I've tried to sink a PT I've died miserably, while watching mutiple hit sprites on my target, (which didn't die, and claimed no damge taken). And I fly nothing BUT the F4u-1c, or bombers. exclusively

As it stands currently,, if my PT boat is hit at all by guns, (plane guns of any size) it explodes immediately following the 1st ping..
with very very few exceptions. (I'm not counting ships guns or bomb drops here at all. and yes, I've survived them, also with no damage showing on my PT)

I'm also discounting the "plane overhead" since they very well could be bomb deaths.

I'm talking about straffing planes 700-1200 yds out.

something just ain't right.

I've done alot of strafing PT boats in 1.05 in my P47, and I disagree with the 1 ping deaths.... The guys that ive blown up have gotten hit by at least 50 .50cal hits

Ive also seen some that ive come in and strafe, because i couldnt stay with them as long, just lose engines and such...

And anytime ive been killed, which is many, its always cause the killers have gotten solid hits.

Greybeard it sounds like you have connect issues.

When you are getting pings after you are dead like that, it just means that the damage packets are taking longer to get to you than the host expects.  Although they are "out of synch", you didn't really die from "one ping", you died from all the pings you heard... even if you didn't hear them until you were in the tower.

Have you tried the alternate route?  I have much better luck with it.  To use the alt route instead of choosing the main arena, choose the "Alt Route Verio" arena.  It says it is closed, but it is not, it is actually the alternate route to the main arena.

GB,

Didn't you have a similar problem in DOA?

Maybe its a connection issue.

Wab, Sorta, but that WAS a soundcard problem,
(SB PCI128 in a 450)..
this is on a complete new system.
Intell 933, Asus CUSL2 MoBo, 256meg PC133 Ram, ProphetII GTS Pro 64ddr, SB Live Platunum w/DTT2200 Spkrs. 19" Monitor running  1600X1200 32 bit ingame. USR 56k V90 everything on a dialup. (solid 28.8 dialup, both netmedic, and ping plotter 99% of the time show NO packet loss etc. DSL and cable not yet availible to me   )
I have tried the alternate route and pretty much get the same results from plotter etc.

Seems kinda odd that in a Plane or vehicle, or from other PTs, I can generally take a lot of hits from the smaller calibers before blowing,,,  but in a PT, it's 99% of the time I'm back in the tower after 1 ping.
and it's odd that nuthing gets damaged (on the PT's only) and nothing goes red prior or after a gun run.

Ah well.
Thx Guys for your input.

Guess all the flyers out there are perfect shots 99% of the time when I'm in a pt...or maybe I'm just collecting a LOT of golden bb's...  Fek.
