Val Dive Bomb Sight?
« on: June 03, 2004, 02:00:08 PM »
Does anybody know how the markings in the dive bomb sight in the Val are meant to be used?  I read the Val description on Soda's A/C page, but he stated that he really hadn't figured it out.
If anybody knows and would like to share, I would really appreciate hearing about it.
Thanks,
Debuman

You use the arrow keys to position the "head" of the pilot infront of it. You want it in the middle of the aircrafts windshield with equal ammounts of *space* on either side of the site. Put target in the cross hairs and pray your fire crackers do some damage.

Just tested it, it does in fact work that way. With good accuracy too I might add. Don't really see why you couldnt do it with the regular crosshair either tho, maybe its just for show, but thats how ya use it:p

XtremeJ,
Thanks for your info.  I had figured the crosshairs would go on the target, but I was wondering more about the graduated lines under the crosshairs.
The questions I was wondering about were more along the lines of :
Do the different length lines represent different aiming points for different dive angles?  altitudes?  ship sizes?
Perhaps a ranging device to estimate distance to a known size ship (US destroyer???)?
Thanks again for any info,
Debuman

The lines are for angled drops. If you dont plan to go straight down on your "point" target you use the lines as a reference to your angle approach. Where the very top line is a fairly steep dive as opposed to the bottom line being more of a shallow dive. Using the lines horozontally, say if you were diving on a slight turn, also help you to decifer where your bombs are going to drop. It's more of a reference point, it takes some feel getting used to it.

Thanks Xtreme J,
I kinda figured it was something like that.  I guess I needed someone else to put it into plain English for me to confirm my suspiscions.
Thanks again,
