Hola,

Many moons ago, while working for the Canadian Warplane Heritage. I had the displeasure of stripping the finish off the TBM 3 Avenger (I was Crew Chief) at Hamilton Aircraft Refinishing (now long gone).

The gelled stripper we used was brutal, not only did it melt things (like the boots we were wearing) it also was very slippery (falling off an Avenger onto a hanger floor is deadly) and caustic.

I can well imagine it could cause damage, if not properly removed.

The best part of this story is that after stripping, rinsing, cleaning, prepping, priming and painting. We found out the first time we hit rain while flying that we had made a mistake while prepping.

Imagine the look on our faces after arriving at an airshow with our newly painted aircraft and finding out all leading edge surfaces were now bare aluminum :-(

We got to do it all again...

Regards,

Sorry this was supposed to be a Reply to Snoopi's Concorde post.
