What are the gun laws in Cali?

Carry permits?  Purchase permits?  Owner permits?

If I end up moving to the LA area, is it going to be problematic to bring my 3rd world country arsenal?

You only have to register new purchases AFAIK.

Getting a carry permit is almost impossible. It's up to the county Sheriff whether you'll get one but I've tried in 4 counties w/o any success.

Unless you have a very 'good' reason it won't happen.

I finaly got a CC permit with lots of restrictions....my BIL owns a jewelery store and I'm a part time courier for him.

Cash donations to the local sheriff durring election time has worked for some...saddly so.

Best to find a friend who is in a high risk business and 'work' for him part time, even then it'll be real tough, especially in LA county.

Carry permits, forget about it unless you are a politician, millionaire, celebrity, or major campaign contributor.  Very restrictive and corrupt policies in this state.
Lazs would know about the other stuff.

I recommend that you say nothing to anyone about your firearms!

Some may be prohibited in CA and the problem is even the DOJ of CA doesn't really know what is and isn't prohibited!!!!!!!

Bolt actions are fairly safe, some shotguns are OK, watch out for the handgun thing!  Almost all revolvers are OK!  Magazines can be an issue!

Might wanna locate a site on the net that will tell you what is and what isn't OK and then don't trust it fully cause like I said the DOJ of CA doesn't know!!!!!  Try look ups for NRA, Gun owners of America, Second Amendment Foundation, etc......  Don't use Google cause they have restricted all firearms stuff (you can still look up porn but no firearms go figure).  Yahoo is still freedom based and should work.

I left the State of California (I was born there) because of this kinda stuff and I intend to stay away until they get some sense which may mean I never return.
It's been said we have three brains, one cobbled on top of the next. The stem is first, the reptilian brain; then the mammalian cerebellum; finally the over developed cerebral cortex.  They don't work together in awfully good harmony - hence ax murders, mobs, and socialism.

It might be hard to find a place to put your arsenal, average price for a house is now $355,000 in LA County.

There's a lot more to California than L.A. County.

you must pass a basic firearms safety course in order to purchase a gun..  you then have a backgound check and a 10 day waiting period.   There is an "assault weapons" ban but it only covers black guns.

getting a concealed carry permit is near impossible.   There are 2 in my city of 16,000.   I don't know of any place that is particularly lax on concealed carry in Ca.  right now.

They say we have the right to carry but it is at the whim of the sherrif .... sorta like fuedal england.

Ok so...

I wont be able to carry a pistol unless I play Name that Donation with the sheriff.

Im guessing they will look down on 40 round magazines and assault rifles.

I need to show Joe Common that I know not to point a gun at him before I buy it.

I have to suffer the anguish of a 10 day waiting period before I shoot my wife.

Sound about right?  Vote Republican until I show up please.

No problem with 40 round mags except that you can't buy em new...  you can purchase em if they are "pre ban"  no shortage of em.

you can go and buy a mini 14 and circumvent the "black rifle" ban.
