If you were trying to stop an LVT with another GV,  if you dont have the Panzer or Tiger like in this set, would the M8 with the 37mm and AP rounds or the LVT4 with the 75mm howitzer be more lethal?

The M-8 Greyhound is a great LVT killer.  It's fast, mobile, has a much higher rate of fire for it's 37 mike-mike, and has a 50-cal (which is almost as effective against LVT's as the 37.  The LVT(4)'s short 75 mm is almost completely ineffective against the Greyhound, and it's slow rate of fire means you'll likely get multiple hits before he get's even one.  Add to that the huge difference in target size and the M-8 comes out the winner.

As you can tell by that question, I dont know much about AH's GV's. How many hits should it take from a 37mm AP to kill an LVT? Could a 37mm kill a Panzer if close and at the rear?

the question of how many hits is a tough one to answer since there are a lot variables. Such as

What weapon are you using?
What is your target?
How close are you?
What angle are you firing at?
Where does your shot hit on the target vehicle?
Are you firing AP or HE?
What are you firing at? IE is it a halftrack, tank, or lvt?

etc. etc.

A Panzer can kill a Tiger in one shot if the conditions are right, or it can take many, many, many hits before the Tiger is destroyed.

A M8 should be able to kill a LVT in one or two shots if the conditions are right.  A M8 can kill a panzer too but it's tougher.  In general you're going to want to get in close and fire at the sides of the target (90 degrees to the direction he's facing).  Rear shots I've found tend to only destroy the engine.  Side shots hit the driver and get the quick kill more often.

Haltracks can be killed with HE from a near miss (though the small your gun is the closer that has to be) Not sure if a M8 can kill a halftrack in this fashion.

What brought this up is last night I fired two shots of 37mm AP from an M8 point blank, I mean I was 3 ft away, and it did no damage, yet he killed me with frontal shots with a single .50 cal.

I dont know much about the GV's and their guns but that seemed ood to me.

my first question would be where did you hit him?

I've noticed that firing AP rounds into "soft" targets like halftacks often will do nothing at all since I presume the shell passes right through it and doesn't hit anything critical.  I'm not sure how much armor the lvt has off hand but it's not much so the above scenario is possible.

Also internet connection can play a part I've hammered enemy gv's to no avail because I was lagging a little.

At point blank range a M8 should be able to kill an LVT if you hit it in the crew compartment in just a few shots.

I should also note that this is all a lot of guesswork on my part.  I do not drive the M8 often as I have a nasty habbit of tipping it over. :)  And I don't engage lvt's often with other gv's very often.  So there is a lot of generalizations to what I'm saying here but some of it holds true.

The LVT's 75mm HE shell has a bad bug. When shooting another LVT it will simply richochet off time and time again. I have hit a damaged one trying to kill it 20+ times with no results. Finally killed it with the .50 cal MG.

The 37mm on the is about useless against the Panzer and is totally useless against the Tiger. You can do better with the M-16.

usually it takes 2-3 hits from M-8's 37mm AP to kill an lvt

I have a squaddie that would probably argue most vehemently that the M8 is quite useful against the panzer.  :)   You can't really "kill" a Tiger with it though.  He did get credit for a kill against a Tiger once or twice since the M8 moves faster than the Tiger can traverse it's turret he just drove in circles shooting it till eventually a friendly panzer or 4 came along and finished the Tiger off.  Since he hit it so many times he got credit even if he didn't really do that much damage to it.

As Mobias can attest to, the M8 with AP's is the LVT's worst nightmare. The HE shells just aren't as effective. Sorry Mobias, but no one forced you to re-up 11 times :)

Grits, I am an AVID Greyhound M8 Dweed. I have taken out Lancasters, B17's, Tigers, LVT's, PT Boats, and just about everything else with an M8. The only thing I have never taken out with it is any Jet Plane.

The Most vunerable places for shots on Panzers and Tigers are their Tracks or Rear Engine Bay. However if you can get it just right, there are chinks in their armor. The first one is at the base of the turret. Here you can knock out the guns of a panzer or Tiger if you can place the shot right. Second is right below the crest on the Tanks if they belong to a squad. I have gotten several one shot kills this way.

So yes, it is possible.
