Suggestion for search and rescue missions..
« on: February 14, 2004, 03:19:25 PM »
Just a loose suggestion.

Normally, I used to frown upon people who brought up with the search&rescue ideas. I thought it wasn't very practical.

 ..

Well, with the new "Dude" and the new terrain, I suddenly realized that it could be realllly fun. I was shot down by an enemy fighter in AH2 beta and bailed. I landed somewhere between my home field and the enemy field.

The terrain surrounding me was beautiful. It wasn't as detailed as FPS games, but really, how many FPS games have a terrain that has vegetation for hundreds of square miles??

I ran around, exploring the terrain where I was shot down. There were abandoned homes and barnhouses scattered around. The enemy fighter saw me bail out, and he came back for me. I ran into a barn, hiding there so he couldn't find me.

Then I saw a friendly fighter come nearby and engage him.

It was really cool experience. Seeing the friendly win the fight and flying close to me. I dearly wished that my bailed pilot had a flare gun. I'd shoot it up towards the sky marking my location.. if only there was some way I could be rescued!

 ...

AH2 beta terrain is way too good looking to be just used for limited GV vs GV encounters, or just eye-candy material for those flying in the sky.

If AH2 is officially released and things are in motion, I'd really love to see a search/rescue aspect included in the game. (Maybe as much, a "hunt and capture" aspect could be put into the game too.. )

Dunno, sounds kinda boring in Main Arena, doubt if many people would really want to mess with search and rescue.  But it sounds logical for Tour of Duty.

Sounds like the best idea since aces high has came out.
Just sent a Catalina behind a group of bombers after some minutes and pick up the 'remains' :)

H2H would be thrilled with this! Finally something else

Implementation of SAR I think not really hard and very important.

We allready tryed to implement SAR at SEA in Kadesh scenario. It was really great and had real succes. However it required A LOT of work for CMs to verificate all resques.

IMO rescue could be done follwing way.

You get to bailed pilot in plane land near him and just type ".rescure PILOTSID" then he joins your plane is if it get to tower and then joined your plane but without being captured.

Something like that was done in scenario Kadesh - just CM should verificate right rescue - instead of this simple command should be implemented - .rescue

search and rescue?... im not sure about having a plane to do this. but, what about an option to use some of your perkpoints to rescue yourself?
