In last week's annual Economic Report of the President, Bush projected 2.6 million new jobs would be created by the end of this year, a contrast from the 2.3 million that have been lost since he took office.But just as his Treasury, Commerce and Labor secretaries have not embraced that rosy scenario during a campaign swing through Oregon and Washington this week, Bush also avoided that forecast yesterday.

But in an election year, the sluggish jobs market has drawn attention to the forecasts. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) was quick to spot Bush's retreat from the 2.6-million forecast yesterday. "The White House is totally at sea," said Schumer, who also faces the voters this November. "It says outsourcing is good, and now they're trying to back off. Its annual economic report said it planned 2.6 million jobs by the end of the year and now they won't stand by it. It's time for the president to clear up these contradictions."

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development, whose mission is to help unemployed Indianans (including those who have lost jobs because their work was contracted overseas), awarded a $15.2 million computer services contract to Tata American International Corp., to hire 65 programmers to work on the agency's information software starting in November. Two weeks later, state officials canceled the contract after realizing that Tata is a subsidiary of a Bangalore, India, company and that the 65 programmers were being brought in from India. Is it true that when he was being interviewed on Prime Time earlier this month the commercial in the middle of the interview was for ahem "erectile dysfunction" - the damn left wing dominated media certainly has a sense of humour!

I thought it was intentional on your part, but to be honest, that's an easy mistake to make. It really is a very large metropolitan area, with an ill-defined border between cities/states. Wouldn't be a shred of difference between the peoples, either. They're all Cubs fans up there.

Besides, for all I care Indiana can have Chicago, the rest of Illinois would be better off.
