I was reading some aviation mags and in two different ones I found extremely positive reviews on a series of books on Soviet WWII combat aircraft. The reviews stated that there was many unknown info and lotsa good pics and drawings in them and that they are standardworks and need to be in everey aviationlibrary..bla,bla,bla...etc.

They're called 'SOVIET COMBAT AIRCRAFT of the second world war' parts I & II where I is mainly about fighters and II on bombers and recons. The writers are two famous Russian aviationhistorians called Yefim Gordon and Dmitri Khazanov. They're about 180 pages, come from the british Midland publisher and the ISBN's are 1 85780 083 4 and 1 85780 084 2.

Maybe nice if you've got some $'s to spare or you could look them up in your local library, they seem to be more than worth the effort.

I have both of them and they are outstanding.  They clear up a lot of myths and misconceptions and downright errors in previous english-language books on the subject.

I've got the first one dealing with Soviet fighters. As funked said it's a great book.
I will also suggest obtaining "Black Cross Red Star: Barbarossa 1941" - book that deals with air war during opening months of war with Russia.

For those who have some interests in Soviet Aircombat of WWII, the book 'dance with death ; Soviet WWII Airwomen.' can be very interesting. The writer(actually interviewer), is an american woman(WASP member) who interviewed WWII women/men veterangs of Soviet Airforces.

Stories of night bombers(famous night witches), fight ace lilya, and more, are described in their own voices.

They were ever first Women pilots in front action of ww2.

I own them both, great books.

Easily the best technical reference for Soviet WWII aircraft I have seen.

"Black Cross Red Star: Barbarossa 1941"

I got it last week and am halfway through it. Highly reccomended for history buffs. There will be 4 books in the series plus another three reference volumes.

Pacifica press just does war books and their mailing list is good. I was able to pre-order at a discount before it came out.
