Reminds me a bit of a Skua... but the Skua's tail is totally different of course.
What is it and what was it used for?

It doesn`t looks any ugly to me... for me, the Black Widow is still the ugliest.

It was the Miles Martinet, an RAF target tow plane, hence the protuberance on each side of the fuselage.
