Hey guys!
« on: August 23, 2000, 01:16:00 PM »
I'm making pre-plans on comin' back.  I was in the early stages, then the mid-stages, and now I think it's time to come back.

One question though-

How's the P-47 in relation to WB's P-47?

Thanks!

The AH P47 is a capable performer in AH.

Two -D variants exists:

P47D-25
no speed brakes, slightly better ACM than -30

P47D-30
speed brakes, slightly better top speed than -25

Both AH P47s hold energy relatively well and perform nicely at altitudes above 25k.  Speed needs to be maintained, having to generate speed at low alt is dangerous.

Compared to the WBs P47D, the AH duo seems a little underweight and capable of making some very nice initial turns before energy gets low.

Of course, everyone else will have a different opinion ;^)

Hey guys!

Long time no see!

What country do both of y'all fly for?

I know I seem like a big dork, carrying the torch for the P-47 and then not coming in to try it out, but I've been busy

Historically at high speeds the P-47 could outturn other planes because due to the stick forces the pilots of other planes (especially in a 109) could not deflect the stick far enough.
P-47 had the lowest stick forces and widest cockpit (leverage).
In a real 109 at high speeds the stick forces were about 40 pounds/G versus 8 pounds/G in P-47.
You would need to apply 120 pounds to pull 3Gs in 109 and only 30 pounds in P47 at high speed.
The numbers are from my memory, so do not quote me on them, but you get the idea.

I think I read that in AH the deflection of the joystick represents the amount of force applied to the "stick", not the actual deflection. So at high speed you can be pulling stick to the limit but the control surface will only be deflected 30% because in real life a pilot would not be able to pull further then that.
In less realistic simulators you can pull the stick from one extreme to another in a fraction of a second. They would be realistic if every pilot was as strong as Arnie Schwartzenegger or, better yet, the Terminator itself - who would then care about the stick forces or pilot fatigue!

Rebel,

As you know I'm a Jug fan and I can assure you that AH's P47 is much more fun than the wb's 47.

Of Course I fly the D-25 version, with brazilian marks (guess why!) and it's a great plane in there. I'm in the 1st TOD in here and I managed to get in the top 40 in the rank.

It's a good strafer and a reasonable dogfighter at med to low alt but it's best is high alt fight, I managed to have a fight with another P47 and another with a 190 at 30k... Hell, the turns are quite wide.

I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Btw I'm using the original especification for fuel management and it's working as a swiss clock!

Good to hear it Rebel

I fly with the MOL and currently we're with the Rooks but I'm flexible. I'll check the roster when I log on next and look you up!
