Actually ............if you watch carefully...........you will see the AH community........

AW community was  a very early form of virtual community and so its actual existance became a thing of wonder at its time..................

subsequent communities will never take on the mantle of the original but can exist none the less................. scan these boards you will see a broad mix of folk inter acting very much like a community does...........many of us "know" others and can identify characturistics.............. many will disagree with each other on many points but would join together to defend our common ground............our mix of skills is varied yet many of us contribute

When it was shut down I think there were close to 30,000+ paying subscribers.  Out of that, probably a couple of thousand were regular players.

I was not implying that he was by any stretch of the imagination good.  There was a film I had posted on SNA's old site of a fight I had with him where he was running away from my Stuka.

I gocha AKAK. I just remember people speaking of him as if he was a good stick.  Something like:  "You got Rags, WTG!"
I remember thinking how unchallenging it was to kill him.
There were so many good pilots in AW.. I wouldn't put him in a class w/ any of them.  I always fought him in his pony.. off the top of my head, Manx's pony was much  better.  I doubt Rags could have hung w/ any of the better 38 pilots.

running from the Stuka.. lol.  The closest person I've come across like Rags in AH is a guy named empty.  The most empty thing on him is his sack.

It looks like it will require a hardware addition ... the stick and pedals have a gameport connector and the newer computer is all USB. I have received advice that I will need either an adapter, or to install a gameport sound card. The adapter seems simpler, but will it work well? Anyone here using such an adapter with Win XP? Are there driver problems? Is it worth the trouble, or should I just bite the bullet and buy a USB rig? The stick is a Sidewinder and the pedals are CH, as I remember I would set up the stick as a CH and it worked fine.

I had a similar problem and installed a gameport sound card for as a fix before going the USB route - check yr email about the setup file.

Gameport sticks will not work with windows xp with or without a usb adapter. Been there done that. Well that not quit correct you can get the stick to kinda work however NONE of the buttons will work! CH products USB rig is the way to go. If you have the duckets that is.

Former AW flyer here

Was known on AW on AOL First as "QG123". Then moved to Gamestorm where I was known first as "PORNO" Then cause one solitary whiney person complained aboout it they made me Dump that
So I went by /IT\
Came here and for some unknown reason AH Wouldnt let me have "/IT\" or even "IT" So I became Drediock"

You Can however get the gameport stick to work just fine if you install a soundcard with a game port.

The demise of AW changed the face of AH as much or more than anything else. I'll leave it to you to decide as to positive or negative results. Bottem line, two weeks free, give it a try.

Because EA bought it. then did what they've done with every other game they bought but didnt create.
they killed it
And oh what a date they chose to end it.
Dec 7th

Turned aot of folks off to Ea including myself

Ea has never received another dime from me.

That's not because he was a good stick, it was because he was hated by many.  He used to switch sides and gun people down on the runway (from within their own country) when it was possible to go PNG

I think he was hard to find moreso than he was a good stick by any means.
