Next ETO set-up please: NORWAY

A discussion has been going on over in the CT Developments Group page I would like to bring before the CT as IMO it has the making of a good set-up. We have too trains of thought going - Grits' "Norway 1940" and my late "Norway 44".

Either of them would make a good set-up IMO. Listed below are the plane sets for each scenario:

NORWAY 1944

Scenario of Royal Navy Carrier Strikes against the country as well as Tac strikes from RAF Aircraft based in Scotland as well as a "What If" invasion of Norway.
RN plane types will be divided by carrier fleet (Seafire and Martlet together - TBM on all CV's). German Navy to get one CA fleet.

ROYAL NAVY
F4U-1D
F6F Hellcat
F4F-4 Martlet
Seafire
TBM Avenger
PT-Boats
LVT-2
LVT-4

ROYAL AIR FORCE
P-51B Mustang
Typhoon
Spitfire IX
Mosquito
Boston
Lancaster
C-47

LUFTWAFFE
ME109G-6
ME-109G-10
FW-190D
FW-190A-8
FW-190A-5
JU-88
JU-87
ME-110G

BOTH SIDES:
All vehicles
PT-Boats

If you wanted to make it "interesting" you could add a "What If" and give the Germans one carrier group to represent the unfinished carrier Graf Zeppelin with the JU-87 Stuka & ME-109F.

SKUAS OVER NORWAY
April-June 1940.

Carriers HMS Ark Royal and Glorious sink Konigsberg April 10, HMS Glorious sunk 8 June, BEF evacuates Narvik 10 June, HMS Ark Royal attacks Scharnhorst 12/13 June.

Allied Land:

Spit I
Hurri I
Boston
All M's
(No Tanks)

Allied Sea:
2 Allied CV's no CA's

SeaHurricane
SBD (Skua)

PT's
LVT's

Axis:

109E
110C
Ju88
Ju87

PT's and all M's and Panzer

1 CA fleet

I prefer PAC setups, but this is a unique idea that might be a nice twist. Jester really is the one that gave me the idea when he proposed the '44 Norway setup.

Yup.  The early-war version is Battle of Britain, transported to a colder clime.  I think that the BoB plane set is the standard by which all others should be judged, so I say "hurrah!"

But then I say:  The 1944 set gives us another of those "what if" opportunities, so that people can fly blue planes against Leatherflugzeugen.  I think this will appeal to many, including those who are mourning the lack of blue planes in the current setup.

So...perhaps try the 1944 version first?

I agree with Oldman, it would be fun indeed to fly some of the Blue planes against the LW, lots of unknown matchups there. I like Jester's '44 idea too, it should definately have the "what if" of the Graf Zepplin just to throw a twist in, you LW guys are going to have to get carrier qual'd. :)

I did not put it in my list, but the Spit I would only be available from UK bases, not from any in Norway. They would really only come into play if the Axis got a base in the UK otherwise the range of the Spit I would take it out of the mix, which is what happend in the actual campaign. Basically this would be Hurricanes vs the 109E and 110C.

The Axis could have more than 1 CA, but the Allies should only have CV's, and no CA's in its escort if possible.

I like the 44 setup but maybe get rid of 190d9 and typhoon, they would speed upthe low alt fight by about 15/20mph over the next planes which would limit fight to many of slower planes.

These are both reasnable setups with the 1944 scenario looking like the "has not been as recently run" item and the early scenario being “BoB in Norway with SBDs”.

Both look fine to me and I would gladly fly in either setup for the side with the best whiners to accrue some excuses.

So you are saying that you think the Hurricane I is better than the 109E? Come on man, its got 30mph on the Hurricane I, climbs better and despite the way the MG-FF is modeled (right or wrong) its guns are better too!

If anything I thought the Axis might have too much of an advantage in my '40 setup.
