I would like to head out to the aircraft museum there once we get settled into our hotels.

What sort of equipment is your company interested in?

I am actually working for a few days during the show there. The company I work for here (Esser Twin Pipes, LLC) is owned by a German company (Esser Werke GmBh) and we sell pipes to company's who operate concrete pump trucks. We also sell pipes to the manufacturers of the trucks as well (Schwing, Putzmeister and Cifa are the major world wide companies.); we also sell to other smaller manufacturers worldwide as well.

I handle North America for the US side or our organization and that includes the US pump manufacturers as well as large diameter (over 5" inside diameter) pipe for mining, power plants, etc. During the time I will be there several of my customers will be over for the show courtesy of Schwing America, Putzmeister USA and Cifa USA and those guys will be coming by the Esser Werke tent at the show as well and someone who speaks English and can understand them needs to be there.

I'd normally jump right in and start making arrangments to meet up with you guys, but I just had an operation on my back and I don't know how long it will be until I'm back in shape.

The Docs say 6-8 weeks, although I feel better already. I should be in good shape by the end of the month.

Drop me a line a couple of weeks before y'all come over and maybe we can meet up.

Biergarten time usually gets going around April-May, so your timing is impeccable :)

My list of the best sights to see:

Deutsches Museum
Flugwerft Unterschleissheim (LW Airfield, with aircraft)
Zeppelin Museum Friedrichshafen (about a 2 hour drive, but worth it)
Pinakothek (Art, if you're into it)
Downtown shopping area (go on a weekday if possible, Sat. is crowded, closed Sun.)
Kloster Andechs (Monestary with good beer and food)
Schloss Neuschwanstein (castle - 1-1/2 hour drive)
Schloss Nymphenburg (castle in town)
Ammersee, Starnbergersee (2 big beautiful lakes 1/2 hour away)
Zugspitze (highest mountain in Germany 1 hour drive or train)

I hope I'm in shape to meet up with you by then.

Hiya, Dowding

I still play, but mostly scenarios, maybe 1 night/week MA. Right now, though, sitting time is limited (lumbar prolapsed disk), so I've not been on for a while.

Good to hear from you.

Sorry to hear about the back agosling. Hope all is better in a few weeks for you. BTW how far outside of Munich (Munchen) is the Flugwerft Unterschleissheim airfield you mentioned?

I have most of the day on Saturday March 27th and all day on Sunday March 28th to be a tourist before I have to work for 3 days. I want to get in a few good places like the castle and don't mind renting a car for the day to head out to places like the Ammersee, Starnbergersee area as well. Those are areas I have seen pictures of and would like to see in person.

I have heard that the Dachau isn't far away either; that is one place I would like to see as well because of the historical impact that a place like that has.

I think Dachau is very easy to reach from the centre of Munich, much closer to the centre than the airport.

Map below shows S-bahn routes (crap map!)

I haven't worked up the courage to go to Dachau yet, but its on my list. Unterschleissheim is very close, on the  way, in fact to the airport from downtown, about 1/2 way.

Kloster Andechs is well combined with a trip to the lakes. It sits right in between them.

One interesting thing is Unterschleissheim's history. It was one of the major airfields used to jump start the LW pre-war under the conditions of the treaty of Versailles, when they were forbidden from training armed forces (glider clubs, civil transport pilots, etc.) There are some pictures there with some famous names you will recognise (I think Udet and Galland, but might be wrong). There are also some nice static displays. Not so much WWiI, but interesting aircraft. There is a wild looking Dornier VTOL jet and flying boat among others.

For better maps, I recommendwww.map24.de. It has a good search mechanism and phenomenal pan, zoom, etc.
