"Check 6"...
« on: December 14, 2001, 07:53:00 AM »
How exactly does this work....I hear it and also notice that someone has directed the "Check 6" at me personally....does it only give check 6 alerts to those who are in your line of view?  In other words, if I want to call "Check 6" to someone in a furball who has an enemy on his tail will the same message be received by all of my allies in my view?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I want to return the favour....a bunch of guys saved my butt last night using it....I just don't want to overuse it, so I need to know how exactly it works.

Thanks..

YOYO

No, not everyone will get the call.

The person who gets it is the one that is outlined in a box. You can cycle the 1 your tryin to get to by keep hitting the key, and its always the 1 in veiw, so you can use ur hat to move it also.

 hope it helps

Curval, basically, the person that gets the call is the closer to the center to your current view.

That is not true.

You just keep pressing the button to out line each friendly in view until the one you want is selected, leave hime/her outlined and a second later he/she gets the "check 6" call.

Interestingly enough, I have only once gotten a "check6" when the NME was indeed on my 6.  All too often I get the call when it's on my 12.

I never use the "CHECK 6".  instead I try typing over the text buffer (habit from AW).  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I have gotten many, many useful "Check 6s".  My hide was saved a few times....the text box just takes too long....I can't type fast at all.

Ditto. I usually ignore those warnings unless I know that prior to my getting on a bogies "6" there were valid threats around.

 And sometimes I should listen when I don't  :)

A lot of times I have a hard time seeing who is chasing who, so I give a check 6 just to be sure. I figure it's better to throw out a useless one than to not give one and have a countrymate get shot down.

with pilots choosing names like 'KFGcoPdit' and '228844567' its a nightmare to call their 6 in text  :p

basically the rule is press the button for 6 call and the nearest friendly to the center of your VIEW will highlight.leave for a half a second or so and the call will go out, if you press again it will cycle through friendlies but its not always very good at going to the player you want.if that happens try to switch your view directly onto the friendly and press 6 call again.

basically a messed up 6 call is better than none at all I think.

While I admit "JAB00021" is a bit unwieldy, "J_A_B" is currently unavailable in AH.  Let's hope HTC "sees the light" in this regard.

I think the 6 call system might work better if we used 1 button to target the friendly, then a second button to actually send the 6 call.

If your having problems with people giving you 6 calls when the cons on your 12 then your SA could probably be better imo.  I very rarely get bounced in the MA because I'm constantly scanning even when I'm on a cons tail.  Generally when I'm given a 6 call and there is a con on my 6, i'm already fully aware of it anyway.  When every single enemy within 6K is blaringly displaying a neon sign "here I am" sign its pretty difficult to get bounced.

Having said that I'd much rather receive a mistaken 6 call then not receive any at all.

I don't understand you here.  Don't you mean it's THEIR SA that really should be better?

Oh, and is there a way to turn OFF the 6 call?  At least the voice of it?  As in will deleting the voice wav not cause AH to crash?  I find it to be a distraction.

if you dont like the vocal check 6 delete the wave file.

You oughta be thanking people for a check 6 not complaining.

sometimes what the other fellow sees in his fe is you and an nme relatively close. so he sends of a check 6 just in case.

nothing wrong with that.

how is typin check 6 any easier then hittin 1 button?

this community asked for a check 6 call

htc went beyond what any of us expected.

maybe you oughta wake up and take time to learn how to set things up to suit your style before coming to the board to complain.

delete the wav file I know its a real hassle

I agree.  I didn't complain about the existance of the CHECK-6 feature.  I just don't like the vocal part of it.  The text is enough for me.  At least you confirmed that AH will not crash if I delete the wav.  Thanks!

Who complained?  I haven't complained about the Check-6 feature (I DO complain about some aspects of AH but this is not one of them).  I only think it's ironic that I get more check 6's when it's actually me on the other guy's 6.
