Trying to sort thru how the stats in AH work.
There are several ways they are presented.

First ... Kills/Deaths +1

What goes into this? It isn't purely Kills and deaths. Looking at my score it appears that it counts all ditches, bails and captures as deaths as well.

There is a web link for scores. Go to squad ranks. Click on a squad tab, you get to see the members of the squad and their scores.
Click on their names and it takes you to their personal score page. The stats on the two pages do not match at all yet they cover the same areas of Kills, Deaths, Bails, Captures, etc.

So what gives?

I'll give this a shot, or at least get this thread started. The "stats" page includes proxy kills where the "score" page doesn't. I'd also like to know how scores are tallied and averaged.

The stats and scores pages don't match for a few reasons.

Score Page:

Proximity/maneuver kills are not included in tally
While on a fighter mission, kills of ground vehicles are not tallied
A death is logged whether someone else is awarded credit for your kill or not
In calculating k/d... captures/deaths/bails count as a death... not sure if discos count as full death or not.

Stats Page:

Any kill awarded to you in the MA is logged (including proximity/maneuver kills)
If you die, but nobody recieves credit in buffer, death is not logged

This translates to a much worse k/d on your score page than on the stats page. You will have fewer kills on the score page and more deaths.

Discos are 1/2 deaths, IIRC. Ditches are not deaths. (for score purposes) Tell ya what, I'll go confirm this from my score page right now. I'll edit in a few mins.

edit - The above is correct. For scoring, I have 29 kills, 7 deaths, 1 ditch and 1 disco for a 3.4118 K/(D+1). 29/3.4118 = 8.5 which comes from 7 deaths + 1 + 0.5 (for the 1 disco).

BTW, prox/manuever kills are counted on score page as long as you've damaged them. I've gotten a few to auger in front of my Spit V this tour, and that's the only plane I've flown for fighter sorties, and my kills and deaths match up in my score and stat pages.

The only kill discrepency I have is in bombers, I've got 2 B26 kills, yet only 1 shows up on score page. Hmm, I thought I dropped a bomb on a GV and shot down a Spit in my B26 sortie... I figured both of those would be scored.

And I was afraid I was going to be the only person anal enough to even look at this stuff. <G>

Wonder why the decision was made to count a ditch or a bail as a death if it happens over friendly territory? I mean, pork a landing, skid off the runway... or come to the base glider... and take what you can get without crashing.. and if you aren't on the runway you get tabbed with a death....

I want the challenge... of trying to make it home.. if ditching in friendly territory or pancaking on the grass just short of the runway gains nothing... (of course I'll still do it because I play this thing for the thrill emulating the real pilots)

Other nite my radiator got porked... do you know how many folks will chase a D9 trailing smoke? <G>

In any event when the engine quit I bailed. I tried to "walk" home but the NME captured the base I was walking to. So I headed off for the port. (God knows how long it would have taken to walk the 20 some odd miles)
However some deeb came along and strafed me on the ground and saved me from finding out. <G>

You will get 1 of 2 messages when ditching.

If you are in freindly territory it will say ditch and does not award a kill.

If you see capture a kill is awarded.

Captures and bails count as deaths, ditching does not.

Discos count as 0.5 deaths.

suppose i get shot down and bail it gives kill msg to guy who shot me dwn then i get captured or bail successfully how does that record in stats.

The bail is logged as a death. The outcome of the bail effect the multiplier you get for the points catagory.

What was the reason that bails over friendly territory count as a death?

Statistically speaking in WWII that was one of the advantages the Germans had and the Allies did not. To go down over the continent meant the loss of a pilot or aircrew to the allies, to the Germans it meant, in many cases, saving a pilot for another day.

I agree it should be awarded as a kill to the victor but a bail over friendly territory should not be scored a death.

To me it makes sense. If bailing and ditching over enemy territoty is counted as death, then bailing over friendly territory should be counted as well. In all of these cases one loses his plane. Only the plane ditched at friendly territory can be recovered.

Another way of viewing and counting the results would be to count actual pilot deaths , captures and rtb:s separately from what happened to one's plane. That would mean more categories for the stats though.

I see your point but.... stats in WWII did not keep track of pilot deaths. They kept track of aircraft loss. I mean, I have never heard of pilots claiming to have killed pilots or wounded pilots etc. They claimed aircraft destroyed, probably destroyed, or damaged. Kills were awarded based on that.

In AH kills are also awarded based on aircraft loss. So we have that base covered. If a pilot bails over friendly territory and you get "you have bailed successfully" then to score it as a death is contradictory. The message should say "you have died." I'm not sure if this was programmed for game play in an attempt to preclude people bailing to avoid a fight or what. Perhaps it was just programmed incorrectly and instead of a bug we have a feature.

Ah but we have ack that doesn't hit a slow climbing airplane at short range, but will clobber a low fast one at extreme range.
We have ubber buffs. <shrugs> I suppose this is the least of the issues. <G>
