CT Blast !
« on: August 19, 2001, 05:13:00 PM »
Wow,

I just spent the evening in the CT, numbers are getting up nicely, and it's sooooo much more immersive than the MA. We just finished a RAM-cooked mission (London Strike with JU-88's and a deceptive 109 escort flight).

Having our escort pop-up when we started seeing the coasts of Kent, and the upcomming horde of Spitfires, was well .... I can tell you I was happy to see them ! Perfect timing  :)

Comming over target, we entered in a cloud cover, and released our ordinance, while the RAF had now lost our position.

Our losses were heavy, but London has one less factory  :D

CT realy is a blast

Yep, truly great.

Our raid (7 Ju88's I believe) was exposed halfway across the channel by a single spit, which blasted through our close escort pair of 109F2's, and we soon was attacked by more spits working together.
The larger group of 109's that was first the decoy, arrived as the cavalry just in time, and by some freak luck I actually reached the target with Saw (all others had been lost) without a single hit on my plane.
I dropped the load and with RAM as gunner I dived away with a spit on my tail. RAM scared him away and when later when another spit attacked he shot it down. I landed safely back in France as the only bomber.

Damage dealt was  only 9% of a radar factory (it's limited what 2 Junkers can do when in a hurry  :)), but who cares. That mission was simply a blast.

I think the RAF loved it too.

Was on the RAF side of this - and can confirm that we loved it. Chasing Ju 88s around in the clouds over the Thames while getting pounced by 109s is most definitely my idea of a good time.

<S> LW for making such a historically correct raid.

CT needs bombers - lots of 'em!

My only complaint is the icons in the clouds. That ruins a lot of the fun.

I must agree, the CT is way more fun for me for four reasons: degraded radar, reduced icons, historical matchups, and a group of people who tend to be more interested in recreating the challenges of actual WWII air combat than scoring points or forcing a reset (i.e. in living up to the "sim" part of the term "flight sim").

I would still like to see icons go away entirely. I personally love going numb or getting lax from searching for 10 or 15 minutes... then getting the adrenaline rush of bouncing or being bounced by the unknown.

For me, the CT has only two flaws:

1. I need to be able to switch sides as often as needed to keep the sides balanced.

2. I get bored with the inherent restrictions on aircraft selection determined by the theater/time frame. Unless you really like flying the Spitfire, there is little fun for the allies in the present theater. I'll never know how the Luftwaffe fliers can stand flying only variations of the 109 and 190. I flat out get bored flying one type, I appreciate my favorites a lot more after contrasting their performance with the other rides.

Unfortunately, no single time and place supports the entire plane set, which means someone will always be unhappy with whatever is currently in the CT.

I have a frustrating, but practical solution to that problem: Rotate through the theaters based on strategic victory. If you like the present theater, fight hard for whichever side is losing so the theater doesn't change. Otherwise, fight hard for the winning side until the theater you prefer is available. Unlike democratic voting where the minority never gets their way, every theater will get its turn, just some will last longer depending on the attitude and performance of the players.

As it stands, most of the time I would rather play (and have mostly played) in the CT with only the Spit, 109, and 190. The environment is much more important than the particular type of aircraft. Also those three aircraft give a good range of variation from turn fighter, energy fighter, and heavy firepower.

HTC has already done a great job, and Aces High just keeps getting better!!!

A big <S> to all on that raid!

I managed to take out 2 of the Ju's, then got bounced by udie on my third sortie. (Where'd you buy that cloaking device????)  Ran into Udie & a friend in a very cool cloud fight over the thames estuary, had to RTB with a shot up engine. Roll a B26 and here comes that cursed Red Baron again! Needless to say I ended up down in flames.

Great raid guys!
