Had a ride-along last night...
« on: March 10, 2004, 10:47:04 AM »
I was working a 24 hr shift at Missoula Emergency Services yesterday and had this lady ride along for a few hours, was interesting.  She is comming back next tuesday and ridding again with a camera man.  She is doing 2 storys about the local ems system.  #1 is on the dumb ****s that wont pull over for code 3 traffic.   #2 is about how intoxicated people and the things they do make up 50% of our call volume.

Be careful that you aren't part of a blind-cover story.  You know, they tell you the story is about one thing, when actually its about something else.  "yeah, we're doing a story about traffic blocking the ambulance" when the 11 o'clock story really is "Local EMS; are they really putting in the hours on the job they claim?  Taxpayers want to know!".

Or maybe you've hit the jackpot and she wants to do it in the back of your ambulance.  Sort of a "Red Shoe Diaries" segment, complete with cameraman. ;)

GOfaster, I have always been wary of reporters and tv cameras, besides everytime we are on tv we have to buy the rest of the crew ice cream.

Oh ya, the taxpayers have nothing to wory about, we arn't a tax supported service.

And the doing it in the back of the 'bolance thing...  Its called the Code 3 club, simmilar to the mile high club...:aok

My dad has suggested putting cow catchers on ambulances for the traffic that dosn't move for code 3 vehicles... :lol

Medicboy, be careful.... they'll save all of the filming they take and use it later for 'why EMS crews are unprofessional and poorly trained'. Keep in mind even the most innocent comments and approaches to the patient can look like abuse when edited out of context.

Been there, done that... luckily, I didn't have them with me but I saw a friend of mine almost have a nervous breakdown.
