Radar idea

Radar idea:-

I do not like the current 1 dweeb in a bomber destroys all radar for everyone in the country system.

Was thinking the other day about sector radar, similar to RAF chain home defence radar of 1940.

Rather than have 1 hq controlling all radar.  Why not have radar towers that control radar for say 4 sectors of friendly territory?

Each radar tower is linked to the HQ.  So if someone destroys your hq, the only sector of radar you can see is the sector you are currently flying in.

a (very rough) idea of what i mean.  The red squares are the radar towers and the circles are each tower's radar coverage.

If HQ is destroyed all links between radar towers is broken.  So you only see dar within the radar circle you are nearest to.  As you fly between sectors the radar circle control changes so you will see radar in that area rather than the area you were just in.

This will also be more realistic in not showing radar far in enemy territory.

What ya think?
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

Yeah.  I thought of that a long time ago.  I don't remember if I posted it though.  I still like the idea.

I don't care who takes credit, I liked it the first time and I like it again :)

Furball, in terms of poundage, how much would you suggest one "mini-HQ" would take to destroy?  Would they function just as the large HQ's now and lessen the radar coverage with damage?

It would probably be MUCH easier to magnify the amount of dar to destroy by a factor of ten rather than modify the game engine any.

Besides, it seems we already have something like this with field dar. Expand the size of HQ to make it impossible to down HQ with one bomber.

More bombers enroute to HQ would make it more interesting to defend IMHO.

The idea works for me.  Might also have sector bases (like Biggin Hill and Kenley in the BoB) where knocking out the radar (or a bombable tower) destroys 'dar for the subordinate bases in the sector.
