My machine takes 2-3 seconds.

It is slowly developing into a steaming hunk of crap as time goes on :)

Also, I noticed that the terrain seems to be fuzzy or shimmer at higher altitudes. I get that freeze too when meeting other aircraft, and it seems to do it a bit when i am dogfighting. i just got a new comp, a dell 8200, 256Ati card, 3Ghz, 2gig RAM, and the game runs crappy, at least I think. I only get 40fps on low-res with no other planes in the area. When I hit the stall buzzer, or black-out...it stumles and freezes abit. It seems like beta17's overall quality got worse, but didnt help performance at all.

With that machine why use low res ?

Pump it up to 1600x1200 i bet you hardly suffer any loss at all.

I didn't mean low res on my monitor, im running a medium one with that. I meant low quality as in the shift+f3 thing. So i dunno whats going on, anyone have any tips? If you look above to Fester's computer specs, mine is almost the exact same thing, only 3Ghz, not 3.2

I'm curious...I'm running a Ti-4200 on a XP2100 box with 1 gig ram.

Frame rates in the ~65 range with everything maxed everything smooth as can be...suprised at some of the issues since you guysseem to have more GPU power than I do.

It seems very odd to me too. Are there settings that come on a computer from the factory that have to be changed to allow for max perfomance or something? I dont run any virus or firewall stuff either when i play, so I dont know whats slowing everything down.

Things change so fast...as the GPU gets better there is less load on the CPU....

Framerates can be effected by a lot of stuff....if you have "onboard" sound (on motherboard) that can take alot of CPU power. The more system resources being used by background stuff also an issue. I've got my box dialed in pretty well. Drivers are optimized for my card (38.something) and nothing is running for no good reason. You should be getting much better performance than you are.
