Problem with Terrain editor

I'm new to this so please bare with me. Everytime i click three or four buttons while running the program XP wants to send an error report and then shuts down. Is this a problem with the soft ware or maybe something on my computer doesn't want to run the editor or do i need some other type of program to run in conjunction with the terrain editor. Any help on this would be appreciated thanks in advance.

Only time i get an error message is if i try to open it and a file Im working with is not names correctly. Make sure your screen resolution is 1024x768.
to start out click file -> new then type in the name of what your map is going to be called. Make sure your maps name is 8 symbols or less (including spaces).
