just banter from newbie
« on: March 15, 2004, 10:05:59 PM »
only been playing for 6 months now but notice alot of complaining about stealing kills

starting to believe the people in the game care more about their own rank then actually trying to win the reset

the way i see it is that most of the time it is just an accident and it is not done on purpose but it doesnt matter to the person who had the kill stolen..... and then all the other guys on range channel have to listen to the never ending argument that follows between the two pilot..

so now my example

one night just jumped on over country channel cv off base Asomething. Igo right there and 5 guys up as time when on it turn into a furball there trying to take where trying to defend.
As one of the first people up without muck action for a few minutes i managed to get some alt before the furball started.

A high f4u sart his way in but paying more attention on who is going to dive in on then me at co alt. I make my lead turn he does nothing to defend he gets ready for his dive gives up his tail and ping i got his tail.... As a rule i never wacth them fall becuase when i first started i look at the plane falling an ping im falling to.

it comes up Assit on jonhdoe. i say nothing . then another person says sorry about that he didnt mean to steal the kill

I respond by saying "THATS ALRIGHT AS LONG AS HE IS DOWN"

Maybe becuase I am new and dont care about my kill per sortie and or death......

care more about defending or taking base then what my score says....... or maybe i just now that that one kill wasnt going to change my rank all that much.....

Sometimes I just want the other guy to know who it was that shot them down.  I do tend to get irritated when I have been in a tough dogfight where I finally rip the guy's wing off only to have someone shoot the flaming wreckage with cannon and get the credit.  But then I'm the kind of guy that tends to get on range channel and ask before I dive in on a 1v1.

In a furball though...anything can happen, but I do tend to let folks nearby know when the plane they are chasing to the deck is already dead so that they don't waste ammo and alt.  It always amazes me though how many will still try to shoot at dead-men-flying all the way to the deck.

I don't worry about it. I've seen people pounding away at wingless flaming wreckage, but who knows what they see with internet lag? If he dont explode outright, I guess I need more gunnery practice.  And I've also seen p51's with a radiator leak climbing up my six while some guy is shouting - "don't shoot it, its down!" :D I guess its a matter of perspective :P

Maybe its not the score we are woried about.  mAybe it is the principal.  That same guy that stils kills will let you die so he can get a kill.  Bottom line, its stealing and thats what bothers me.  Not the score.  One kill here and there will not effect it.

There is a time for both.

There's times when I'll gladly take an assist as long as the threat is down.

Then there are other times when I've fought a bad guy from 10k down to the deck only to have some one come up & jump in when it was obvious I was saddled up at 250 just waiting for a clear shot.

And no I don't ordinarily care about score much.

Moderation in all things  :)

killing ...

... i sometimes find that I've missed the coup de grace on a kill delivered by another pilot... and take a shot on dead bird that looks otherwise intact. But might that be a connection problem at my end? Is this what warping looks like from the pilots Point of view?

Thoughts?

I  always feel crappy for the guy who didn't get the credit.

Sure, I had those myself.  I am not talking about the accidental shoting of a plane that looks in tact.  I am talking about wings missing and flames comming out and seeing a guy following the plane to the deck trying to get it to explode so he gets the kill.
I think its the lameness of the action that bothers me the most.

Whats a reset? Some sort of ACM move? I thought a reset is what you did when your computer locks up. ;)

Hmmmm.....   I even care less about rank than I do Resets.

Resets only matter when a CO of RJO squad asks for our assistance or if its a set goal,  the rest of time it pretty meaning less.

Any Both are very low on my list.

furballs are chaos...  'kill stealin' there is normally accidental.

I've been accused of trying to steal a kill....  I was pulling hard on aplne that 2 or 3 of us were trying to shoot, I blacked out but knew the enmy plane was remotely close to my sites so I fired...  but by the time I did someone else had him flaming and began b**chin about me trying to steal their kill and I apologized.

I've had people swoop in and kill someone I was shooting, they apologized, but it was no big deal as long as the enemy was down.

The only time I've ever got pi$$ed about it is when I went up to intecept bombers, go there splashed 1, somelse splashed 1, and then I shot the wing and tail off the other and he was flaming and some random dip***** decide to dive on it firing until it exploded...  then to top it off, mr. random decides to bi**h at me.
