Ok Hollywd you can take the plastic hook out of your mouth    sorry to fish you in but this message isn't about you.

I'm sitting here watching Blacksheep squadron on the History chanel.  It's too funny.  Theyr'e talking about the 500lb bombs on the bellies of their f4u's and what you see on tv is 2 drop tanks hehe.  Then I noticed that 2 of the birds have 4 20mm sticking out of the wings. LOL

I forgot how cheesy this series was

I'm watching it too udie
if ya looked close while they were sittin there you could see 2 different models of the hawg sittin there =)

and in the landing sequence on the flattop, they show one of the new super carriers.  When TJ comes in and cracks up it's a bearcat I think, with a radome on the right wing.

I still like watching it =)

TJ's pooched landing featured footage of an F6F. If you looked carefully you could see fuel gushing from the drop tank.  Those guys getting the pilot out were some brave fellas.

Did you notice when the bombs dropped they fluttered back behind the planes on release? It looked like they were balloons with fins.

It was interesting to see the takeoff sequences, I didn't realize they used flaps for takeoff.

Straight out of the F4U flight manual...

Section II
Paragraph 10.
sub c.

"FLAP SETTINGS. - For normal operation it is recommended that a setting of 20 degrees be used for take-off"

I saw the episode too and remember it from when it had its first run in the 70's.  Yeah, lots of stock film footage is used to add to the story, but the newly filmed flying sequences with the 5 Corsairs in formation is unbeatable!

Those Corsairs are the ones bought from south america. They were F4U-4 and a couple of F4u-5, you could tell the difference by the exhaust stack on the right side of the plane. I noticed the 20mm myself. Also noticed that the gear came down kinda slow and thats are speed brake.
