Anyone have a Sony 17" Sdm-s73b?
« on: March 08, 2004, 09:54:39 PM »
Anyone have any info about this monitor? Mwave.com has a pretty good deal (or so it appears) going on this one and I am in need of a monitor ASAP. My 19" Dell 1226H is going down the crapper fast and I want to get an LCD to save some space on the desktop. The cost on this one is $422 plus shipping and it has a 15ms response time listed. I haven't been able to locate any other information other than what Sony and Mwave have listed for it.

Any help you guys can give is greatly appreciated. BTW everything looks blue/green now and no matter what I do to the monitor it doesn't change. Every once in a while the monitor will flash and the color changes but eventually it goes back to blue/green.

LCD bad for gaming in high FPS games.

they just fine for graphic work and normal usage.

get a CRT for gaming.
I don't know what to put here yet.

Recently installed a Dell Ultrasharp 2001FP LCD monitor on my system. I am running AH at 1600x1200 (Native resolution) and getting fantastic quality.   It has a 20.1 inch viewable screen,  Response time 16ms at 1600x1200 - 400:1 contrast.

There is a very slight (and I mean very slight) blurring in side view when you do a 400kt flyby at 50ft - but nothing you would notice in normal flight. Anyone who has fought with me will tell you I am not the best out there, but since installing this screen my K/D ratio has improved, and I seem to see targets at 1 pixel long before they see me.

Here's a quick shot to give you an idea of size etc. Don't judge the quality of monitor image by this shot - bad lighting - flash photo etc

A bit pricey in the UK, but well worth it.

They (Dell) have the monitor you mentioned on sale here in the US for $899.10 right now. Its a little bit more (actually about $400 more) than what I have to spend on the monitor but I may have to throw that one on the old credit card and pay it off in a hurry.

I've tested that sony with AH and I didnt like it. I've also tested several other LCD's with AH and so far my experiences are not good. Best so far has been SONY SDM-X202 20"TFT, 92KHZ 1600 DVI-D.

In my opinion. CRT is the best choice for AH.

Thanks mipoikel. What exactly was the issue with that Sony monitor? I got to try one out the other night with Hidden and Dangerous 2 and it appeared to be fine but I really am interested in hearing about potential problems with LCD sets.

This has been my experience too, Not really a problem coz when i'm doing a 400kts flyby i wanna be looking out the front to see where i'm going! :D

My old monitor recently gave up the ghost and rather than buy another CRT type i opted for the new technology and have been very pleased with it, it's display is brighter, has more vibrant colours and takes up a lot less space on my desk

There is i believe a small issue over screen resoloution in that if your screen size is smaller than what the monitior's nominal size is, things might vanish because to display that size the monitor has to turn off some pixels

however this might  just be the rumor mill working overtime

Mine is the EA17

hmm... Its hard to say what is wrong... It just feels too slow? Even if it is 16ms.  Maybe it also too sharp? Best way is to see it. Do u have any chance to test these monitors?

I did get to try the 17" that I want. It seemed fine in Hidden and Dangerous 2 when I played that last week but it wasn't on my system. As you can imagine my buddy was a little reluctant to part with his brand new $450 monitor to let me try it with my system.

I have him talked into coming over and flying IL-2 this coming weekend for a while. Maybe he can be persauded into bringing his monitor for me to try out.

Telstar all lcd monitors become fuzzy (unsharp) unless run on the nominal resolution.

So for example my laptop's tft screen is sharp only when it's run at the native 1400x1050 resolution. On all other resolutions the picture simply isn't accurate.
