I would hope that we all feel a little uncomfortable with the WMD situation. Not just because of the Bush administration, but from the congress as well... both sides of the aisle, and the intelligence fiasco.

I have had and still do have friends over there.  When people start critisizing the amount of people involved or if a country is pulling soldiers out then they are disrespecting the soliders that are either there or have been there.  They've all helped and if we all used some common sense then you must realise that some countries cannot fulfil a long period of help/assistance.  That's usually what the UN is for, to help share the burden of operations like this.

For those that start or support threads like this, have some respect!

Yes Replicant, and even just sending ONE soldier is quite big, gesture wise.

It says "we may not be liked for doing this, but we're on your side and ready to support you. We'll take the political, economical and security-related risks despite it being rather unpopular, mostly because there's doubt to whether the situation is as bad as you claim. Nevertheless, we support you".

Lots of European liberals are going to be thrown from power in the next elections, and the socialists will be all dominant once more, with all the bad stuff that comes with it. They've (my PM, for instace) taken huge risks in backing the US politically. And Danes, Poles, Spaniards etc  as a people are on Al Qaeida's sh|tlist because of it.

We may not have provided many soldiers, but we're a small nation. In a storm of world opinion, with perhaps a lost election as a cause, some politicians a) trusted the US on the intelligence they had and based on it, did what was right, even though it was unpopular and b) increased the risk of their population.

I get really pissed when ignorant idiots, Americans or of other nationalities, try to minimize the support of other nations

Due to misinterpretations pertaining to the President’s remarks given during his meeting with the press on March 18, 2004, the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland has been authorized to issue the following:

 

1. The essence of the President’s message in his remarks to the press on March 18, 2004 has been a restated presentation of reasons and purposes of Polish involvement in the process of stabilization and democratization of Iraq. “Iraq today, without Saddam Hussein is truly a better Iraq than with Saddam Hussein” the President said. He also warned of political decisions, which would lead to destabilization of the situation in Iraq. Poland will not withdraw from Iraq until the mission of stabilization is successfully accomplished and counts on effective cooperation with the United States, Great Britain, Spain and other NATO and UN member states.      

 

2. The President of the Republic of Poland reminded that Saddam Hussein misled the world in believing that he had had the weapons of mass destruction and might use them. This was the essential reason to take up the mission in Iraq within a common strategy of a multinational coalition in the war on terrorism.

 

3. The President of the Republic of Poland stated that a decisive factor in fighting terrorism is to maintain unity and solidarity by democratic states. Demonstration of weakness in the face of terrorist attacks aims at the foundations of democracy and security of all nations and world peace.
