I think for ground war the distance problem can be solved by having a rail system where train stations can only have ground vehicles come out of them and you could also bomb the rails to try and stop the ground vehicle assalt but they would be very defenseless so maybe they can get repaired really quickly or whenever a train comes buy it is repaired and so the bombers would want to hit the train but that is not going to happen since it is a moving target so you would wave to have a ground vehicle get close and attack it but of corse the train would be armored and have a few machine guns possibly.

so a good idea?

yes sure,
hope to see trains in this game, I have some photos of p38 and others plane strafing trains.
Think some ground veicle base can be build.
In AW3 in some arena we have little base used only for veicles.

I have two ideas.

1.  Have all army bases close together and call it done.  With that goes having airbases NOT being the targets to capture in order to win the 'war'.

2.  Skip massive amounts of distance wholesale.  Multiple bases change hand when one is captured.  Say four army bases, one on the east, west, north and south of each airbase.  When one is captured, all five installations change hands to that new owner.  Those army bases off in the distances are very near the next airbase's ring of 'protective' army bases.

Only the terrain around the army bases needs to be detailed with ground objects for tanks to fight amongst.  The rest of the area can be flat as a pancake.

Idea for ground wehicles - let AI drive them,
so pilots don't waste time on tanks driving.

But, I WANT to drive a tank.  I want to drive a tank MORE than I want to fly a fighter.  I do pretty well as a fighter pilot.  I am bored.  I want something new.  (FYI I own alot of sims, from submarines, to tanks, to the few realistic First Person Shooters, to flightsims)

If your worried about having people stuck in tanks when they would rather be flying a fighterplane....I wouldn't.  If anything I forsee tanks as purely optional.  Paratroopers still work too.

Given the choice between flying a C-47 or driving a tank to capture enemy land, which would rather use?  Which is more realistic?

Hans.

P.S. Remember, the option to only fly planes is always there, even with tanks around.

No! I am worried we will see only 2-3 tanks in battlefield per night. So my point is to give more job to tank busters - stukas, sturmoviks.

I'd also like to drive tanks, but there are a few things to keep in mind
1)This game is no tank game, which means that tanks will no be modelled like in some HC tank-sims (I would be glad even for tanks of AW).
2)Distances and tanks' firepower: In AW I used to take a tank while my friend took an AAMG tank. Then we set the course to the enemy field, and multitasked or did something else; in 20 minutes our tanks were possibly at the base (if we were lucky) and there we could destroy the base easily. No-one could take off from the field, and no bombers dared to bomb us while we were at their base. If planes tried to strafe us, we were possibly lucky enough to hide behind some buildings.

My idea of ground war: large convoys of 5 trucks of troops, few tanks and few AAMG tanks. Distances should be so long that id would take like 20 minutes or so to attack a base. When the base is captured, it would be fully operational (because u bring your supplies with u). These convoys would be controlled by AI, but I think that it would be nice if u could take control of a tank even after it has left your own base (so that u wouldn't have to drive it yourself all the way).
