Three Gorges Dam! A Poll!
« on: March 20, 2004, 02:44:05 PM »
Biggest Dam in the world. Caused the displacement of over a million Chinese. Some theorize that sediment buildup at its submerged base will cause it to fail within 30 years, causing one of the biggest man-caused disasters in history. Any civil engineers out there, please let me know what you think of these theories.

For the uninformed, here's some background:

3 gorges dam

If anybody has any more meaningful info, please post.

Siltation will not cause it fail, it just removes capacity.  That, to me is the major problem with the project.

Hmmm... that doesn't strike me as a politically viable target.  Too much death.

Not likely. One of Sun Tzu's doctrines was never to fight an unwinnable battle--which is exactly what a nuclear exchange would boil down to.

My Theory:

We take out Dam. They, in turn, order their millions of Sleeper-Agent restaurant-owners to close down for a few weeks. Mass confusion followed by starvation ensues in the States.

Bada Bing!

why would china attack her largest colony? That would stop the flow of raw materials from the US and manufactured goods sold back to the US.
