Need Advice From Gamers
« on: March 24, 2004, 04:00:31 PM »
Heres the deal, my dad likes computer games and has fun with his 4 year old grandson, but it is tough to have fun with no real room at his PC and playing two up is not really possable.

I would like to get him one of the game box deals that you hook up to your TV. The question is which one? the X-BOX, Playstation or the Ntendo. This way he can play one on one and my brother and I can have a blast playing also.

Please tell what is the best overall and why. Is this a good idea are these things even worth it or are they now out of date? I know nothing about them and when I go to look at them it seems every kid skipping school is playing them and you can't get near them.

Thanks in advance Guys

:aok

depends on what sort of games they like...

Nintendo Gamecube - lots of kid games.  The other two (Playstation 2 and XBOX) are geared toward the teen/adult male crowd.

Gamecube isn't the most high-tech (doesn't have hard drive or network connection included) but for an adult wanting to spend time with a kid in games up to 4 players, it'd be unbeatable.

I particularly recommend the mario party games.

Like said above, the gamecube is ideal for the younger kids (8 and below) Cartoon style games, along with the Mario Brothers etc. and allows for 4 players.

Then comes the battle between PS2 vs Xbox (mainly for the age group 13+) Pros and Cons for both. I prefer PS2 games, but the Xbox has a bigger system  with 4 players, which can be maximized to 32, via networking. You can play online with the Xbox if you have a lan, but you'll need to buy a subscription, Voice Communication is integerated aswell. Xbox probably is better for sports games, PS2 any other type.

Good luck.

Heya Scoot,

Yep you can't beat the gamecube for what you're looking for.  My son just got one for his 5th birthday and he loves it.  Lots of games geared for kids/family, and they're cheap too.

I gotta Gamecube...I would not trade for either Xbox or PS2.

From what I read Gamecube will do everything a PS2 or Xbox can do except for online and DVD's. I bought it for the name mostly. I looked forward to Nintendo because all the famous games I grew up with would make it on the Nintendo game roster...

I just played Mario Kart Double Dash this last weekend and I left a lot of Ciggarettes burning in the Ashtray and my beer kept getting warm!
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

PS2- you can play all the old PS One games on it and there are a ton of these and they're cheap as hell.

Game Cube

You and your kids can have fun blasting TIE fighters around with Lucas Arts's Star Wars Rouge Squadron:)

X-Box my mate has both X-Box and PS2 and he swears that X-Box with chipped mods is the better of the two by far. Plus I think Microsoft have just dropped the price again.

Plus X-Box has released and developing further multi player games to be played over the net.

But most of all, think alot more game developers that develop games for PC also code them to X-Box as well. Overall seems to have more support by different software developers.
