AH2 is a blast

Well kweassa, I think it's already been determined that Aces High is nothing like "real life". As far as that goes, I'm sure plenty of damaged planes stuck around to fight in real life.

Just expressing my humble opinion that it's going to mean you are just about automatically out if you take an oil hit, might as well lose a wing. Lotsa people fly around now with smoke plumes behind them.

 Fortunately, that's AH1. Not AH2.

You get oil hit, or a wounded pilot, then I guess people will have to just get used to turning back home, as they should have always done, if they weren't so obsessed with shooting at everything they see flying around in most cases.

Understandable, but as severe as it is I don't think there's going to be a lot of a chance to get out of the engagement.

I guess I'm just thinking that if oil hits are going to move up the scale from minor or moderate impacts on playability to a major impact, it might be good to give a little something back as well, like less of a chance for it to happen or maybe diminishing a bit over a short period of time.

Would be nice to see more folks take an interest  cause its a good time.

I'm more than just interested. It's the download that's stopping me. With my local phonelines and local isps, downloading anything larger than 60 megs is generally a futile effort. The only broadband option offered in my little town is wireless for 50 bucks a month from the local autoparts store.

Get a download manager that allows for broken connections, etc, and download it when you hit the sack.. Here is a link to Get Right.

Got one (download accelerator plus) - but it won't do ya much good (except for the resume feature) when there's only one source. And half the time - a resumed download is porked on my end. At 4 kb per sec (my avg dl speed) it would take more than overnight for alot of these megadownloads nowadays. :D

It would take less time and trouble for me to wait for a burnt copy from a squadie. Which means waiting for it to go final release.

I am so jealous!

My new is almost done! Yes thats right folks! I can continue to play Aces High and now Aces High 2! hehehe

Infact today or tomorrow I am going to pick up a monitor, load windows and then instal AH2. hehehe.

I am amazed from reading SlapShots comments on fighting at how different it seems to be. Are all the planes like this? (As different as you described) what about the 51? is it modled like a real 51?

Ahhh so many questions! hehe I cant wait to try it.

I think that a big part of the reason there isnt many playing AH2 yet is because they cant like me. Alot of the ppl whome I've talked to have systems worese than mine! Thats scary.

Cuz mine is pretty bad hehe... In the grafix area anyways...

Anyways, Cant wait to get in there with ya guys and give it a rip.:D

Yep all the planes give you a much greater feeling of their weight and inertia.

A good example is, when your are screaming down in a dive you have to allow for a little more alt while the planes weight and inertia transition from downward to foreward.

All the planes are alot more slippery and stall alot more easily.  It really feels like you are on a knife edge.  Hang it out too far and off you go.

You won't notice it in a drastic way.  It will be in little ways at the outer edges of the envelope.

Fought Eagler in a G-6 vs G-6 duel some time ago in AH2.

With the twisty stick I'm using, I've never had to use so much fine rudder input in my life, to keep the plane under control. In the end, after the battle ended up as a draw, my palm, pinky finger, and third finger was cramped up and I had to apply some medicine to it.. ouch!

It won't feel much different in most situations - but if you really get into a fight, the differences start to pour out.

One thing I learned, dogfighting as we know it will have to change in a BIG way with this new Flight Model.

I was fighting Spit v Spit and at about 2K the Spit went vertical, with very little E, and tried to roll over on the top and immediated was snapped into a stall that he could not recover from ... I have never seen a Spit not recover from a stall at that altitude.

I had another fight, Spit v Hurricane. We got down low and slow, and I managed to get around on his 5 oclock. As he pulls right, I begin to follow and I can see him drop a notch of flaps in the turn ... immediate snap roll stall ... into the ground. Probably not a problem in AH I, but detrimental to you health in AH II.

You know how you can come slow and lazily flying on final, not directly lined up with the runway, and turn into the runway at the last second and drop in smoothly. Not anymore ... the handling at low speeds in this type of situation gives you the feel of sloppiness (or inertia) that is not so easy to recover from.

I landed my Spit and wasn't paying attention with my rudder ... it started to tail loop like an F4U ... I recovered, but during the recovery, one of my wing tips hit the concrete tarmac ... I heard the sound of screeching  metal against concrete ... was cool.

All in all ... we had a great time and once we spent some time in the Arena, we wished that there were more people in there to continue the experience.

Great job HT and HTC !!!
