A way to "force" historic encounters in MA
« on: May 30, 2001, 10:01:00 AM »
Actually, all the maps are divided into three countries, and each country has always two "distant" borders, one per enemy country. Lets call these borders "left" and "right" respect the center of the map.
Now lets disable axis planes for all the bases near the "left" border and disable allied planes on all the bases near the "right" border per each country, so, half the bases with allies and half with axis. This way, each country has two fronts, and each front is always axis vs allis / allis vs axis.

You always can choose alied or axis front without changing country or squad.

The enabled planes could be as a static configuration after reset, or changing dimanically depending on bases lost or gained to the enemy. This last option ensures that each country will always have half of its bases with allied planes and half with axis.

The next is an ugly example of what I mean, a map with 3 countries, X as axis bases and A as allied bases:

AAAAXXXX
XAAAXXAA
XXSSSSAA
XXXSSAAA
AAAAXXXX
AAAAXXXX

I see three flaws with that:

1: characters do not show up in UBB code like they do when you are typing them in.

2: You got that strange word "force" in there.

3: You got that other strange word "historic".

And that's where you lose me.

LOL SeaWulfe, ok, I admit it, my map is a mess and my english too.

Here is an even uglier map:

The center is a nice sea.
X = Axis bases
A = allied bases
S = Sea
And I hope you are able to find out the country bordes (upper country, left/down country and right/down country).

AAAAXXXX
XAAAXXAA
XXSSSSAA
XXXSSAAA
AAAAXXXX
AAAAXXXX

I think the title speaks for itself.  If we are going to force historic encounters.. why not loose the pretence and just call it an "HA".

Cause with the proposed system each country can fly as allied or axis at the same time (2 fronts). That is not exactly what I understand as a purist HA.

Once a country loose most of its terrain, their allied and axis boders will be really close, and a mixture of its allied and axis planes will be seen in both fronts.

Interesting idea, but all you will get is Spits and La-7's taking off from allied fields and Niki's taking off from axis fields.  So the resulting furball will look the same.

IMHO we should leave the MA alone and make an HA with rotating terrains and planesets.

Japanese planes participed mainly in a non continental war. A possible solution to the nikki/zeke problem in the axis side could be to make them available only from coastal bases, supposing the map has some water. Same could be applicable to US Navy planes.
